The sound is amazing for in the distance and in confined places, sewers and rooms etc but the sounds near me like gunshots and footsteps are all very... quiet. Firing a gun in this game is like firing an airsoft counterpart.

I dont know if I'm the only one here, I have my soundquality on high and channels on 32. Even put in an live-soundeffect equalizer to strengthen the nearby sounds but to no avail.

The sounds in ROOST were fine, you could really HEAR a loud bang when you fired your guns.

Is this normal in RO2? I expected more of the soundsystem

I agree. What bugs me the most are grenades, they sound like firecrackers! The bolt-action rifles sound unusually quiet, too.

Yea.
I could not come up with the word for it, but now I have it: it sounds all so..muffled!
In beta, the game played environmental echos making them sound powerful and not airsoft weapons. In retail, those are gone, its just the base-sound from nevada desert, thats why it all sounds like airsoft guns.

Ah, that explains it.
You hear the guns with earplugs in. You would not shoot a gun on a range without earplugs in. ;)

I've had a PPSh bug for one round where shooting the gun would not make a sound at all, and all I could heard was the impact of the gun on flesh or wall. It was all very surreal. :D

I think the mosin nagant sounds really bad, it needs more of that powerful sound imo, now i know that they were recorded from the real things, but still.

Aye.
It wants me to replace the RO2 weapon sounds with the RO1 sounds. I know it's impossible and I hope TWI will fix it, reading as the sounds in the beta were different.

nothing wrong with it, it's just the missing environmental sounds in retail.

The sounds are great, but however you can hardly hear someone shooting 50 meters away, it sounds too weak, it feels that it is actually more distant than it actually is. Same goes for grenades, if you throw the maximum distance you will not even hear the bang. The problem could be easily fixed by increasing overall weapon volume, so that gunfire away 50m does not sound like its 200m away.

Unless a grenade goes off in your pocket you rarely hear it. I've dropped grenades over walls and not heard them go off.

Since I play with a headset most of the time, I prefer keeping my eardrums as healthy as possible. Increasing overall gunfire volume would be a problem, because then after all the shooting and exploding I'd have to reduce the game volume and then the entire immersion and atmosphere would be lost.

I really don't see a problem. I've played pretty much every FPS worth mentioning in the past 10 years. RO2 has the best weapon sounds of them all. And the volume is just right to keep the sounds from being overwhelming.

EDIT: I agree about the granades though. They're way too quiet.

Couldn't agree more.

really wanna hear echoing, howling, cracking mechanical, LOUD gun sound..

really wanna see RO2 be the first game to accurately describe that loud cracking, echoing real gun sound.

It's not arcady modified muzzled gun sound of battlefield series, it should never be..

I guarantee the game would be 40%.. more realistic than before,
Cmon TWI, you can pull this off

Its not REALLY about the weapon sounds mainly, it's the sounds that are in your direct environment. In many cases I hear distant sounds louder than direct sounds, like my teammates shooting and cursing.
