It doesn't help that a ton of people outside the US us are stuck at 99% updating on Steam and have been since TWI switched to Steam's new patcher...

Yes Diablo 3 has hurt the player count of many games Ro2 is no different. This Saturday night they was less than 200 people online during prime time and 2fj had less than 20 players on it.We ended up going on a smaller server with a few clans and friends and played some CD at times was only 6vs6.We had a blast still it just goes to show you don't have to have a full 64 player server too have fun.

As the new of Diablo wears off the player base will return to normal. Whenever Classic goes live it will bump the player base up even more.My point is don't be afraid to play a smaller server with some good players
you may be surprised how fun the game can be even without 64 players.

Also CD rocks!! with two good teams

For standard player it can be described as "long periods of boredom with short periods of combat", as it was in reality. How many people can sacrifice 2 or 3 hours to "do nothing" or abort multiplayer operation in the middle (with other people involved), because his family is calling for a dinner?

have you even played arma2 MP?

while its not the fastest game out there, if you find that you're "trapped in long periods of boredom", then you're doing it wrong.

I played a game of ARMA2 where all i did was ferry reinforcements and casevac wounded to and from the AO with a blackhawk. I didnt fire a single shot that whole game but my adrenaline levels were more than what i get playing RO, CoD, BF, etc.

When you have a full helicopter, there are a lot of people relying on you, which adds to the intensity. Hearing bullets pinging of the fuselage as you exfiltrate a spec ops team from a rooftop is a rush. After we'd drop off the troops i'd go into a holding patern over the AO and my gunners would provide fire. Everyone has a mic so we could communicate and accurately put rounds where it was needed.

I dont know why people keep saying ARMA2 is boring. Sure the SP is boring but the intensity of MP is unrivaled. A lot of people in game are relying on you coupled with the fact that if you die you got to trek 20min back to the frontlines; it makes for quite the rush.

I was refering to singleplayer mostly as I was sadly unable to join multiplayer community of ARMA for various reasons.

About multiplayer - I think many factors and involved: you need to get to know good people to play with and you still need to get from point A to point B by foot or transport. It takes time and only thing people can do is to talk before really action will begin. Standard player can literally go and make himself a couple of tea if he doesn't feel the team's spirit. I was also refering to the real world, which ARMA styled games try to copy - that was the phrase one soldier referred about periods of time when they did nothing, waiting for something to happen and then they were fighting for their lives.

I don't try to put a shadow on ARMA's experience, just highlight that it's a very different type of game and not anyone will have time or taste for this. It's better to warn people beforehand what they're getting into before they'll get disappointed. I personally "need a phase" for various types of games. RO2 just allow you to get into action very quickly and ARMA style game isn't a good subtitute - in my opinion - for it, if one would look for such.

I am not understanding anything else!
1)
'I pressed a button' in the menu STEAM, HOS PROPERTIES -......... BETA............ then I entered in a download of hours, that didn't get to be concluded in the end (stop in 98%)

when did it end, did I go to play HOS, and what did the one happen?
I only found HOS BETA

great, 2 server TWI.
and 16 players in one of them. OK.

2)
but there I wanted to play HOS----- NO BETA----
where HOS?
I had to press in the option NO BETA........
and it resumed a download again.......

in the end, I have again HOS, but I don't have more the beta!!!!

3) IN THE MIDDLE of this everything....
I ALREADY HAD THE BETA, installed by the steam, but not for the option PROPERTIES of original HOS....
ONLY THAT: in him it doesn't appear ANY SERVER!

-------------
somebody can explain to me what this having, if I have a game, I don't have the other....
and the old beta doesn't have anything there inside

?

in this forum seems also to have something wrong, the postages don't appear and space to some censorship office, then if you do some it criticizes to the game, even if educated, h can have the risk of having his quiet mouth...

and the one what I find of HOS?
a great game, much better than a lot of thing thereabout.
worse than OSTFRONT....
but that was able to calmly--to survive--if had:
MORE MAPS
1 OR 2 OBLIGATORY TANKS (or servers that worked this option)
and they simply attenuate the zoom (or leaves for there, I tolerate that even so)
I don't only want to see RED ORCHESTRA die.

the largest sin HOS went to be thrown commercially in an inadequate way, and as consequence to HAVE KILLED OSTFRONT

Odd, I found four.
lol, yea. With bots. Come on, theres LESS than 200 players on right now, and thats spread across the entire earth. It never gets much better. Good luck finding players with good pings in any good number in one server. 2 Fj was good for a while. Full nearly every single night. Not so much any more, an that was EST's only hope for the most part.

And you blame this on bots? Seems a bit of a stretch. I blame it on a poor release, I think player counts will climb a little, jump with the free weekend and with RS's release. Apart from this it will gently jump off (unlike after launch where it plummeted due to bugs).

Even in Australia we have 2 full servers a night (one 32 and one 58) and 10 or so players online at all kinds of crazy hours of the day. I look at my server list and see 2-3 full servers with 300 or more ping, so they must be Eu, at most times.

Diablo III must be having some effect too.

I actually think it's a rather good game and when Classic comes out with client-side hit detection it'll be extremely good. I also expect TWI will continue to fix bugs and add content... I was very disappointed in the months after launch but the recent beta process has restored a lot of my faith in the potential of the studio and the game.

Its not the fault of other released games, its the fault of missing Content (Maps, Vehicles, Weapons and heavy Tanks). Focusing the Game only on Stalingrad instead the whole East Front, dumping down the whole gameplay to attract Bf/Cod players. I hope that the huge update will bring back some good old Ro memories, because at the moment the game doesnt motivate me! Im looking forward to the Iron Front release, if the Performance will be better compared to the Armaseries and the Multiplayer offers real PvP battles i will buy it for sure.

The UI is bad in this game. It's a pain trying to select spawnpoints etc. it will just disappear on its own. very buggy and pre-alpha feel on that.

I sure hope so. But it wasnt just the bugs that caused the plummet, thats giving it a little too much credit. It was the lack of features, weapons, tank variety (working tanks, even!) and the addition of COD-esque features that TWI for some reason thought would draw in more casual players:rolleyes:. as we all know, it had the opposite effect.

Its not the fault of other released games, its the fault of missing Content (Maps, Vehicles, Weapons and heavy Tanks). Focusing the Game only on Stalingrad instead the whole East Front, dumping down the whole gameplay to attract Bf/Cod players.

This exactly. Theres too many fanboys that simply wont face the truth about this.

Yea I get this too. I thought I was the only one. Weird that something so simple yet so irritating hasnt been fixed yet.

The biggest issue I found with this game was the maps. In Ost there were some great sprawling maps thats managed to focus people in certain areas to capture the points. Once these points were taken, the map would move on and another set of objectives would be needed to be taken. What I found in RO2 was recappable objectives which lead to a weird sort of battlefield conquest style TDM/obj that for me...really didn't work and failed to create the atmosphere and intensity of pure attackers/defenders games.
