fixing the game" that should have been nailed on release and not a mess that it was and continued to be for so long.
Nobody wants a buggy game on the release. But the fact is that it happened. No one can deny that the game was a pretty mess at the release and if you ask me Tripwire was not really ready to release something like a
big fish like RO2. RO2 is the biggest and most complex release Tripwire did so far and if you look back you see that they lacked some experience about releasing bigger games. There was a lack in the development but also a lack good and honest communication with the community. This is all stuff that happened and it was bad without any question but there could nave been two ways how it went from there.
1. Tripwire could have decided not to reall care since the game sold itself rather good. They could have made 1-3 small patches and pretty much leave the game in the state it was.
2. Tripwire could have decided to realize they made some mistakes and put over 6 months of work into fixing the game including directly involving the community.
Oh wait I think what happened was option number.
Let me explain you why developers often give you rater vague comments about further content before its released. If you ever have been involved into some kind of beta testing or creating something yourself you realize that a lot of stuff works good on paper but in the reality it does not work good. In every form of media no matter if it is music, movies or video games there will be a lot of content that the guy who is listening the record, watching the movie or playing the game wont see because it did not make it to the real release. In music you have b side compilations and when you listen to some you are often happy that certain songs did not make it on a normal record. Same thing goes to movies. A lot of movies have alternative endings, some are good but a lot of them are quite bad and you can be glad you never have to see them. When a developer is now saying that he is working on more content he has the same issue. He pretty much has to wait until he knows what is really going to make it a release and what not. The problem if if you would say something like:
Oh we are working on 5 new maps, 4 new weapons and 2 new vehicles.
People will be very upset even if there is a minimal change from what the dev said and what is actually getting released.
To sum this post up. I know its not very nice but some people need to realize that most likely TW just started to work on more gameplay content and it will be weeks and maybe even months if you really see bigger content updates. TW spend the last monhs from the release till now to find out what was wrong with the game and fixing it. If you have been in the beta test you are maybe aware of that already anf if not you should realize it now.
