It is official this game is a mess.

For 4 months i have been waiting for all bugs to be ironed out, Refinement of the game play and extra content.

Now we have "ro Classic" to appease alot of old players and create a 3rd class of game which will lower over all server numbers.

Well done TWI...this game has a bright future.

i agree! a very bright future! (not sarcasm ether :p )

glad to see TWI finally picking up on what most people wanted to see. as long as it feels like its actually being worked on and tweaked as we go i think i can see myself actually getting past 80 hours without reliving the good old days of RO1.

But this wouldn't be a "RO Classic" mode with just weapon changes. We also have an initial list of functionality changes and removal as well. This list is designed to emulate the "feel" of RO 1 by making distance engagements a bit more of an uncertainty. You can find that list below. This is once again a look at the initial changes we are going to make for the mode and take feedback on in beta:

  • Removal of peripheral action indicators
  • Removal of spawn on Squad Leader
  • Removal of the bleeding system (Player will always take 100% of the damage to an area on the shot and not half then bleed the rest out like in the current system)
  • Players will have a movement speed penalty after being shot in the feet
  • Stamina will have a much greater effect on weapon sway and recoil
  • Stance will have an increased effect on weapon sway/recoil (with the default standing state having more sway then the current game modes)
  • Removal of "controlled breathing" zoom, but retaining the functionality to help steady the weapon as well as the slight iron sight zoom
  • Stamina will recharge at a slower rate
  • No AI Tank Gunnery
  • No Lockdown

Now these changes will also be joining a host of changes and refinements we are making on the current systems as well. Several of these are still having their designs tweaked and updated so I will hold off on going further on these til a later date.

Now some might wonder why some of the other oft requested features are not readily on this list, such as player momentum. The reason for this is the momentum system in RO 2 is the same system as RO 1 with a small tweak of player friction at the start and ending phase to make it feel more responsive. So before we go and start making changes to this we want to see how the other changes play out first in getting players the experience they want.

We look forward to play testing these changes with you in the coming weeks.
YES. This sounds great. Thanks Yoshiro and I really hope we can look forward to testing these changes very soon. Thanks for listening to community feedback, even if it has taken a lot longer than many of us would have liked. The addition of weapon sway, the removal of the wounding system's flaws, and the omission of shift zoom will all go an extremely long way towards improving RO2's gameplay. It's certainly not everything, but definitely a step in the right direction.

Hopefully I'll be able to test these changes very soon. Until then, thanks for the consideration.

Thank you, Yoshiro, your efforts are very much appreciated! I've played RO since the mod days, too, and am looking foreward, very, very much, to the proposed changes. TWB*SlowBull

Now this is what I wanted to read.
Is hard to earn back the confidence you lost, but with announcements like this one you are finally on the right track towards that goal.

Lets just hope is not too late and maybe one day we'll be able to play what this game was originally meant to be.

:IS2:
What lost confidence?
Ro2 was never meant to be Ro1 with better graphics you know..
Tripwire still did a great job on RO2, its just a bit sad that the launch was a bit bugged.

Oh please, I'm happy, so don't get me started.

You are right, it was meant to be better, but it miserably failed, so I'll settle with Ro1 with better graphics.

Tripwire still did a great job on RO2

no comment.

its just a bit sad that the launch was a bit bugged.

There is a huge difference between "a bit bugged" and "terribly broken", and not just the launch, 6 months in, it still runs like crap for a lot of people with high end systems.

Thanks a lot for your work!

A couple of things should be considered, though, IMHO

the Squad Leader will be loosing his access to sub-machine guns and semi-automatic rifles

Why would you do that? I don't know for USSR, but the German Squad leader was actually the only one in the squad who had a sub-machine gun according to official historical tables of equipment.

Removal of "controlled breathing" zoom
This is the thing that would actually make me uninstall the game forever.
Why would you do that? The human eye can easily see soldiers at 400-500m. What is difficult is hitting them, not seeing them.

But eliminating zoom would mean that all shooting beyond 150m is negated or just becomes pixel hunting.

I know that people in this game are whining for being shot at 200m while playing Rambo, but, if you read any wartime manual, you will learn that being at 200-300m from the enemy was considered a close distance, where being not in cover/concealment was considered to be extremely dangerous.

If you increase sway, hitting someone at 300m would be very difficult, as it was in real life, but a prone rifleman or machine gunner, with enough time to adjust the sight, could do that. But if you eliminate zoom, nobody will see the enemy at 300m (except marksmen) and the game will just became very close quarters combat. Surely war, in real life, was not just very close quarters combat.

Please reconsider that.

Thanks
Maraz

And what i really like is: "Removal of "controlled breathing" zoom, but retaining the functionality to help steady the weapon as well as the slight iron sight zoom"

Sounds great Yoshiro, but please consider this:

- Please don't take away the "controlled breathing zoom"! That is a good feature that should still remain. By removing it, you're making it closer to a pixel hunt, which RO1 players complained about a lot! Don't change something that hasn't received significant complaint!

- Please change the server browser so that servers aren't separated by mode, otherwise the community will be divided even further. I would suggest having a symbol to indicate which mode a server is using, and perhaps a filter option.

- Please allow players to choose whether or not they want to have certain weapon attachments. This should actually be in all modes, however.

Everything else sounds good, but I don't understand how "realistic" mode can still be realistic if the loadouts are not fixed according to historical accuracy or the specific conflict/map. This creates a system where the "RO Classic" mode could be more realistic than "realistic" mode, which makes no sense. The Russian submachine gun should have drums by default in most situations.
