Melee combat is serious business. Please do tell FPS community at large the various ways we can poke, stab, slash, bash and disembowel in your new jewel of the crown . . . RO2:HOS.

Quite honestly, if you can't strangle a Russian conscript to death using the intestines of his still dieing squad leader then it's not a game worth playing!!!

;);)

Seriously though, the problem with rank progression is it becomes a bit of a grind. People who don't even enjoy the progression have to do it because you're hindering yourself by not.

And when there's a system in place that means you constantly have to be "the best" it's basically ****ting all over casual gamers who don't have the time to sit in their parents basement power gaming to the top slot. So they then have to deal with johnny hero status having an ingame advantage over them such as lower recoil.

Saying "it's not an advantage worth having really" is kind of an oxymoron. If it's not an advantage worth having then it's not an advantage, is it? And if it is an advantage then everyone will want it because people like being on a level playing field or above that.

Obviously TWI have it under control though, they're not morons they're fully aware of all the issues involved. They've already stated the bulk of hero things are purely aesthetic! :)

We'll put "bulk" in quotes. ;)

Seriously though, life 's not equal, nor is basic PC gaming, with faster rigs, IP connections, and lag issues to contend with, the fact that some players coordinate tactics using VOIP while others don't, and even considering that some game roles are limited per class slots available each sessions, etc..

If you're worrying about johnny hero's acheivements and how they might affect you, there's way too much out there to consider already before you've even joined your first MP session.

Just find a server that suits you, or play in passworded environments.

Beware though, johnny hero is coming, and some of these guys (kids if you prefer) are just as capable of mastering the skills in any shooter as the rest of us can.......if not better. So No Fear

The difference in playing field post game is really uncontrollable, developers can't be expected to have an influence on that and they shouldn't have one either. It would be nice though to have a level of relative equality walking into the match purely from a game standpoint. That much a developer is capable of producing. :)

Regarding server options -- lets face reality here, people go to whatever servers have the most people despite what options those servers have, beggars can't be choosers and all. If someone hosts a lagless 64 player server, even with horrible option settings that 90% of the community hates, it will prolly be full.

More options and selections for players are great! But lets not keep wheeling out the "but you can probably turn off that option for your server!" line as a trump card excuse to counter peoples criticisms. The bulk of servers and consequently players will be using whatever the default game options are, even if they don't like it -- That's just the way it always is. You can't blame people for then wanting the default game to be awesome without the need to play some laggy 32 player server in slovakia. ;)

But again, TWI have it under control. They can't market this to their niche RO community only or they'll be a commercial flop, but they're trying to not turn their back on the community that made them. They can't realistically be the next COD anyway and they're players as well as developers, they want to make something awesome and enjoyable at the end of the day.

And speaking of uncontrollable, have you ever tried playing with cheese puff fingers on one hand and a dew in the other? Luckily that's when mummy lends a hand and the real a$$ kickin' begins.

I play on the pubs with pubes all the time, sometimes I get a kickin', and sometimes I get some a$$ too (knowing it might be mummy on the other end makes it all the slicker). :D

I certainly was sensitive to John being trapped longer than he agreed to be on.I apologize for the abruptness of the ending.

John did stay on Skype for about an hour talking community matters with the panel and that surprised me and was a very pleasant experience.

I want to thank John and all the TWI people that came to listen.

If irc questions went unanswered I surely do apologize.

Live broadcasting is a difficult game as I use 2 pcs and have about 6 to 8 windows open at any given time.

We will also be making a second cast from the after show Skype.

It takes a couple days to edit everything.
Hey thanks for giving him the opportunity to share with all you guys how great this game will surely be. Right now it's all about spreading the word -- I don't think half the PC community realizes what they have here. It's basically the reversal of everything we've seen happen to PC FPS's up until this point.

Remember, it's Robert Bowling Day :D

As a follower of Crosshairs since its beginning and a minor role on cast sometimes I have to say this was the most amazing Crosshairs I've ever had the pleasure of listening and participating. Thank you all guys, from Tripwire to everyone here in the community who was in the IRC and listening to the show, for making a cast that will be truly remembered as one of the most awesome ever made.

As a quick FYI, tomorrow marks 1 year of the infamous Bash 123 podcast where IW through Robert Bowling announced to the world all the features PC gamers wouldn't have with MW2. How ironic one year later the hope that was killed for many PC gamers in that fateful day is now rekindled in a tremendous way.

Good to hear that, glad that communities all around the internetz are picking up on the game. Welcome to RO :) Just be warned, RO is a "bit" more realistic than CoD, you'll have to get used to the different style of play. ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome. Since I do play ArmAII in a regular basis I think I won't have much problems to adapt other than to adapt playing an awesome and true PC game the likes hasn't been seen in years. :D

Haha you'll probably have a much easier time playing as infantry -- controlling infantry in ARMA2 can feel pretty weird at times. I often feel like I'm commanding a mech or something and my reaction time is kinda slow in ARMA2 I think because of the control schemes.

RO:OST feels much more natural to me, but to each his own I suppose.

You know you really are a complete jerk-off.
Rational thought is not really a strong point with you is it?
Why don't we ask TWI to drop their plans on releasing Heroes and ask them to re-release ROOST.
Or better still why don't you just not buy the game as you seem to think it will be complete rubbish anyway.
Although just how you conclude that there is "too much to arcade-playstyle to address the larger gaming community" having never played it yourself I fail to understand.
Can you also explain just who all the "larger gaming community" are and where they are saying the same as you with regards to the game being to arcade-style?

Thanks to games like ArmA or simulators, people tend to think: Realism = Hard and frustrating

So for them, an unrealistically hard game will be more realistic than a realistically easy game.

Don't ask me why anyone would prefer it that way, maybe brainless pride, I don't know. Maybe they find pleasure, or feel special, shoving in everybody's face, how much they like to play that very hard game that only a few can play.

I just hope TWI will tell some info regarding the Clan gaming features, and Server options. Those are things that generally make hardcore communities horny anyway :p

Beside of course that the classic territory game type with them is not really that known with them. Fighting over entire buildings/bridges/streets/fields and not only a flag or room somewhere in the centre. So perhaps a general description what RO and HOS stands for for the new folk :p.

More info about the singleplayer, and the rainbowsix alike coop stuff would be nice to hear as well.
will the german 1st person running animations be changed? not a game-breaker by any stretch, by I still would rather have it match the 3rd person view

Time to insert a little story. I remember an interview done with a veteran British Para officer in the past year or so, about his impressions playing one of the current modern shooters. The interview questions were a lot about the game's portrayed realism, and how well the tactical command elements simulated leadership, and basically how well the game reflected actual combat, command, and control. Of course he was mostly positive, but near the end of the interview the officer offered that he and his fellow game-playing comrades weren't actually interested in playing this type of game, and that they actually did enjoy playing Modern Warfare much more.

I think combat veterans understand the meaning that games are ultimately for entertainment, and that while trying to simulate warfare, military-themed games should never smother the experience of actually having fun.

OK thanks for the update! This also gives RO2 even more publicity on your site, with two "casts" in a row related to the game, which is fine with me!
