I often have a dvd running in a window in the lower right corner but I almost never listen to music while I map. If I'm listening to anything it's old episodes of the O and A show.
That's not what keeps me motivated though. What motivates me is building something and ending up liking it.

The thing that motivates me most is to learn new things
I go looking at some tutorial or similar and then go mapping for a couple of hours. I've got to listen to music while mapping, otherwise im getting extremely bored, EBM works best for that, something fast. I've tried to watch movies while mapping but it always ends up, me being sucked in to the film -.- But I Love learning new things, and then go try them, see if they work and think if it would suit in any KF-map so that means= alot of silly 5h works in my map-folder.
Now my next project is to get alot of irl-samples and apply them to KF to raise the realistic -feeling^^ so im not actually mapping at the moment.
And if im working on something serious and lose my motivation i either stop mapping or learn something silly to apply it to the map and think "wtf?! this is sooo lame" and then remove it and, i've gained my motivation again^^

Working in UED is motivation enough! Especially after working in source for so long now, cant wait to get back into it.

Knowing that whatever I spew out will make people's eyes bleed. That, or be really cool.
If you're not really that inspired enough to force yourself to do it, it's generally not cool enough of a concept to be worth finishing, I've found. Unless your an obsessive perfectionist, in which case you need to learn to cut some corners.

I can't find a good source of motivation right now. Initially I was driven by the challenge of trying to design on paper the best strategic layout I could then realizing it in the editor. After that I had fun writing scripts to make things different and interactive. Now I will put together half a map then stop. I think it's because I know I'll complete the map and thus the challenge is lost.
Maybe I need to watch more South Park

For me i perfer songs without lyrics when concentrating in ued otherwise, u'd be like typing in the properties and mistake one of the things for a lyrics =p, things that are calm and make me happy is a nice way of relaxing while i make maps.

If I listen to music while mapping I get "flashbacks" of mapping that and that area if I listen to that song later, so I stick with having the TV running (Simpsons is a good mapping show).
