Hi,

@Rrralphster: Hehe, yeah, i hear ya... its like with every other instrument, the feeling you have when you play it: that is what counts. When i go to the local guitar builder to test a flamenca or classical i usually know what i want and have an expectation how it should sound like.
The thing is... when i go to a shop for electric guitars/ equipment (amptown or No.1 in hamburg f.e.) i'm usually so overwhelmed by the things available... so much ways to go, brands to test ...that after a while i totally loose the direction of what i had in mind when i went into the shop.

Hrm, will give it another try tomorrow, and i think i'll just have a look at playability/ suiting neck -> then overall feeling -> then testing pickup sound on a good amp. Will most likely be something where i can actually feel a guitar responding (e.g. lotsa sustain)... so maybe no strat. Gibson: nice guitars but a no-go for me (especially in price as i'm saving money for a new flamenca as well...) so i still expect it to be an Ibanez :).

Well, we'll see (excited i am).

greetz,
gitano

Get something with SSH (Single-coil,single-coil,humbucker) the humbucker is near the bridge. That way you can make riffs on the humbucker and solos on the single-coils; more versitile. Here is an example: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Standard-HSS-Stratocaster-Electric-Guitar?sku=516039

Squier has a new series of guitars and basses called the vintage modified which seem to better then standard fender and they have duncan-designed pickups. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/navigation?q=Vintage+modified they're cheap so you can get a good amp. I'm sure you could find one at a palce that sells squiers or fenders.

Edit: the whammy bar is fun to play with too! You can always get a floyd-rose installed for sustain but they're kinda expensive and are hard to change strings, but they do not go out of tune easily and have a lot more sustain.

Edit #2: here is a squire version of the SSH http://www.musiciansfriend.com/prod...d-Stratocaster-HSS-Electric-Guitar?sku=512573

Bringing this thread back from the dead with an update on my gear.

The red guitar is a Fernandes Japanese customshop (unknown model, mailed U.S. and Japan shops)
And the little amp on top of my 900 is a Class 5 (5Watt, all tube).

And I got a couple of new pedals and a 4x10 1965A cabinet as well.

A clarinet.
Makes a wierd Squeeking sound if I do it wrong, its difficult to play, like blowing air through a weasle.
If not, it makes a nice wooden sound.. <3

Is my primary guitar, a Randy Rhoads 5 with Floyd Rose.

So jelly of the JCM900 there though. I've still been mulling over what amp I want (been eying the Triamp MK2 a lot). Either way, can't afford one yet. So for now, I deal with my gutless, no tone solid state Fender Frontman 65W.

I've been playing the keyboard for under a year... and I'm loving it. Still prefer writing to playing though.

While I have no interest in playing classical music, I did attend music lesson because I wanted to play the Cello like Apocalyptica does
Well, it was pretty hard to learn, but in the end my mission was successful... I think. xD

Nowadays, it acts as little more than a prop standing in my room's corner.

"Classical" instruments playing modern music (rock-metal mainly :p) are always fascinating though, you shouldn't let it collect dust imo ;)

Btw, any Hammond players here? Jon Lord is my idol :D
