I always hear about how many Germans the Russians killed compared to the Western Allies, but I am never able to find how many troops each side captured.
Basically a captured soldier might as well be dead to his side, because he is gone. I know the Western allies netted probibly the biggest catches of prisioners, case in point the Rhine River, Failse Pocket, British early success against Italians, Other smaller actions in the desert, Italy 1943 -1945 compared to Russia who had Stalingrad, and then 1944-1945 operations. I know the Germans were terrified of being captured by the Russians, and in 1945 the Germans were surrendering en-mass to the western allies.
I just want to see how many German troops the Western allies effectively removed from the war compared to the Russian numbers. I realize they did most of the brutal fighting in the war, but I feel like the western allies are downgraded a bit because the numbers brought forward are numbers killed, not captured, which in my opionion is just as good since the soldiers were out of the war.
