I know most of the media released by TWI has the old sounds as place holders. But how much better are the weapon/vehicle sounds going to be? I only ask because I think some game developers tend to leave that to the very last or not put that much effort into. For me a realistic sounding weapon/vehicle makes a huge difference in the immersion department.

While I know we all have played Arma1/2, you have to admit that it sounded like someone using an old school typewriter at 50 wmp. But Arma2 :OA - ACE 2 installed - I finally feel like I can feel the recoil through the sound. It feels meaty; It feels realistic. Of course I can't forget to mention the industry leader in sounds: BFBC1/2.

So what do you guys think about weapon/vehicle sounds? How important are they to your gaming experience?

Here is a link to the Ham & Jam HL2 mod. I wouldn't mind having at least these types of sounds. I really love the ambient sounds.

To be brutaly honest, those sounds don't sound good at all in that you tube video (not sure if they sound the same way in game, as I have not played it).

Nor do those weapons sound like their real life counterparts that I have fired or been around when they have been fired.

On that note, we are plugging our new sounds in game since last week and they sound awesome. There is some more work to do and some tweaks to be made however.

I didn't mean to imply they were up there with BFBC2 type sounds, or sounded 100 percent like they would on the firing range. I don't think it will ever be possible to record sounds and have them sound like they would in real life. There are just too many variables that prevent that from happening.

But the point is that they don't sound fake or like typewriters. You can almost feel the recoil through the sounds, much like BFBC1/2. Even the explosions sound realistic, and they don't sound like an atomic bomb going off five feet from you.

All our sounds are recorded off the real weapon (baring us not being able to aquire that weapon for firing, or it breaking on the range), with some of the best sound equipment possible.

Also keep in mind, many games, like movies, "play up" the sounds to make them sound "realer" than they actually do in real life, if that makes sense to you.

I have a question....

Will guns sound louder indoors then they do outdoors?

i dont know about sounds but the video that you posted sounds are pretty mediocre iven though I'm using HT OMEGA Claro+,I did like the echoing after effect from the sounds though.

But to be honest there is barelly any recoil on the mp40 in this game, whats this game called?

I hope they will be way better !
I always feel the sound of ROost as cheap sound. I can't say if the weapon sound's are realastic but the sound experience is really mediocre. We really don't feel the power of the weapons (especially the main gun of tank which is weaker than the turret mg !)

Why you guys dont add the soldiers voice without needing to use a "voice command", like in BFBC2.

When in multiplayer we hear a lot of soldiers screamming around like crazies, and that really add an heavy atmosphere in the game.

Just a suggestion:D

He already said that most movies and games overdo the gun sounds.

I like how in Red Orchestra when you go to reload you don't AUTOMATICALLY SCREAM thus giving away your position, I already suggested that in HoS they should make it where you scream louder the more sounds are going on around you, so you would talk normal in most situations, whisper if you were sneaking around, and scream during a heated gun battle.

I don't think he means unrealistic, over-over powered, Hollywoodized weapon/vehicle sounds. But he does have a point that the current sounds in RO and place holders in RO2, are just plan weak.

Yeah better sound but not like in Hollywood where a pistol going off sounds like a battleship.

with this i can use my tactic of chuck a random nade wait for screams and go hunting..... no thanks.

if it was done id just want maybe yelling granade only if you are around a bunch of teammates and can be seen by the enemy. But still you could just bind it to caps and only use it when needed.

I think the sounds of Roost are really nice however the balance of the sounds was odd at times. Like a tank hardly made any noise and a pistol round was louder seemingly than the main gun of a tank.

yeah balance is important, i like it when to hear distant sounds i need it up loud. Then when a random nade blows up near me my ears hurt (makes it seem more real to me)

It's a game I'll play many hours a day, I want to enjoy the full sound environment not just the loud sounds.

If the sounds are loud up close, I must keep the volume down --> I will only hear sounds up close which is not ideal. I don't want my hearing impaired.
