Due to the nature of the fighting we will be seeing in HOS, there will be not be much need for slings as you will want your weapon ready at all times. Ofc, if they decided to implement them, no complaints here! I'm just saying, unless it is a big map, like a tank map, where infantry could sprint further with their gun slinged, then it won't have much practicality.

Remember you can have multiple weapons such as a rifle and a smg, since RO2 supposedly supports a weight system.

So in that sense slings would have a function.

Good idea. Besides, there's no reason not to have them. It would be espescially nice if animated weapon changes were included; so, if you're pulling out a grenade, you sling your weapon over your shoulder and then get it out. That would be nice.

The most gameplay-wise use of slings would be a hip-fire MG34.
So you can rest it in the sling and push the gun down to counteract recoil far more easily.

At least that's what an army buddy of mine said about modern MG use.
Apart from that it would be fun to be added later on, more cosmatically.

They would, but it is eye-candy really, most games just sling the gun on your back as if you had a sling, even if it's not actually modelled (i can only imagine how much work it'd be to animate that propperly, the sling would need a very detailed "skeleton" to be able to animate in a natural looking way, and many frames of animation, it'd be a lot of work. The alternative would be a purely ragdoll-physics system, but thouse tend to glitch out and clip through models, or rubber-band in strange ways).

A nice detail to be sure, but one i can live without.

Would shooting from the hip with a sling over your shoulder make firing a lot more controllable and accurate ?

Physx got some cloth modulation in it, which could be used for straps, mg belts, trenchcoats etc. So in a way similar to ragdoll but with hit detection :p

It remains to be merely eye candy, but its not as useless as the second poster implies.

Relevant however not the core of the topic.
Will we see the guns on the models when they are not equipped?
In the old screens (can't open the RPS website... down perhaps?) I am not able to make out any kind of rifle on the back of people when they have a pistol (SL) or binoculars (spotter).

If I recall correctily CS:S did it really well.

I would have liked to see it, but as mentioned it is not that big of a deal. It would be a lot of work to accommodate the reload animations and whatnot so ensure that the hands don't clip through the sling 3D model.

While throwing grenades or using a sidearm, having the weapon hang over the chest of the player model instead of across the back would be great.
