I think it's kind of funny that heroes will get dirtier and not that good cared for ragged look, while their weapons will get shinier lol.
If anything, the roles could be reversed, giving a clean working weapon to a the new recruit, and have the weapon deteriorate for the hero because of overuse, getting just as dirty as the hero.
Since the hero has become good at the game (which we can just assume) he will have learned how to deal with such a weapon on the go.
But i doubt many people would play for weapons that get worse as you go :D

Anyways, i'm not into those kind of things anyway. A game should be interesting on its own, without stuff to unlock to keep you going. That's just cheap and reeks of pick up and play gameplay that gets stale after a week and needs something on the side to keep you going.
I doubt this will be the case with ROHOS but just saying.

Yeah that's precisely what I was thinking.

However, the weapons perhaps shouldn't become dirty but should just have some greater signs of wear on the wood and metal, but not going in to Far Cry 2 territory where it looks like you picked your gun up from some mud pit where it has been laying for 15 years. Manufacturer's marks would be a nice touch, with the new recruits sporting weapons from 1941 or 1942 and veterans using weapons made in the 30s.
