Alright, my idea is really simple and I've seen it done in one other game that I can't remember right now.

Idea:Basically, when you are going to join a server, but the voting is in process or one side has a very low amount of tickets, give the user a warning about this. Or make it viewable where ever you see the details about the server.

Reason: I know it's no biggy but some people take longer to load in maps (not me) and it really really must suck finally loading in and the battle finishes the minute after or the voting is already in process so you just have to load another map instantly.

It's just a warning like "This battle is about to end and/or is in the process of voting, are you sure you want to join?"

Again it's a real simple idea, be a nice thing to see featured since people are suggesting queues getting added too.

This pleases me. Thumbs up.

This has definitely been an issue for RO..even sometimes resulting in a game crash or getting thrown back to the menu. So, i like this idea..kudos sir Kudos.

I'm not 100% on with this idea but i would like to offer a different way to tackle this problem.

I think the pop up should say say "This battle is about to end and/or is in the process of voting, you will automatically join when the map ends" or something to that extent. Of course there can be a "join now" button for those who don't care. However, if people like a certain server and they get this message and so no, they will probably try again, get the message again, say no, try again etc etc.

If you just notify the player about that, then have the server automatically make them join when the map is finished, it will cut out having people trying again and again waiting for the map to be over.

Not really a warning but generally showing how much theres time left before a map change would be nice, e.g. if you want to play a match on a certain map, you dont go on the server just to find out that after 5 minutes the map changes.

This has been implemented on some servers in Source games so that the servers name itself contained the time left and was updated.

no because then people will not join, then at the end after old players leave the game will be empty :(

Edit id rather it have a simple way to see how much time is left, not try and scare people away. when you click a server it could show time left in the details.

edit again. at least it will not be like bc2 (cant quit during load).

I like this, and I hope there will be more stuff in this area. A good server browser has to be able to dismiss bots and fake clients when you are about to choose a server to join, so you can make a good choice.

The problem with stuff like this is keeping the info current, if it just checks for it when you start/refresh the browser, then it won't stay relavent for long, the vote can have come and gone 10 times over before you click on the browser in the list.

And contrary wise, if the browser constantly had to check up on all the servers it has found, and relay what's going on with them at any given moment, then it would have too much to do, and finding servers would probably takes ages.

The only way i can think to get around that, is to have the abillity to refresh only the one server you currently have highlighted, and make sure you are getting current stats for that one only. But i have no idea how hard/easy such a function would be to impliment, and the game is pretty late in it's developemt cycle now.. it might be a bit much to add now.

Not a bad idea but I think a countdown timer to the end of the match as well as a status indicator (ie. in progress, voting etc.) would be better.

I was kinda thinking the same too, in some games when I refresh the entire list, I scroll through a bit and click a server and the map/player number will change sometimes. This happens to me in DH sometimes (don't know if it's just me).

But having the highlighted server refresh itself every 10-15 seconds would be nice if it's not to much to ask for.

I was just thinking for the slower loaders, I was there once and I know it's a pain (especially in BC2) to be loading a map, get in and vote for another or like in BC2, load a map, then instantly reload it or switch to another.

It's definately a good idea, and i'm in favour of it for sure, i'm just thinking ahead to the practical stuff that would have to be sorted out for it to work.

And i think it could work quite well if we where only refreshing the highlighted server, as in, the server browser woulden't be gathering this info when it compiles the list (to keep it loading fast), but we could refresh any individual servers we're interested in to gather more info about them (maybe even have a button next to servers that says "refresh this server" we could press to get all the info).

I think that would strike an eloquent balance of overall speed of the browser, and still giving us lots of usefull information. We're usually only interested in a few of the servers the game finds anyway (the ones with low ping and enough players that match our filter options), we're not interested in all of them (high ping, empty, passworded, full), so it's no problem to update the few we're interested in, and i could see it work that way.

But with the game this late in development, i don't think we should expect to see it in the release version of the game (not unless TWI has allready done it that way), but it could be something they add in a later patch if they want.

I can't imagine recording the time/time remaining would put much more strain on server queues than any other bit of information. It's not like it has to return info on every tick, just when there's a queue for it. In fact I think I remember seeing this on other UE game browsers before anyway.

Sure less people would join near the end of a round but those are people who would have left anyway.
