Want to start logging your Ostfront mod ideas?

Well, our old friends over at Mod DB have now set up their game page for Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45. If you've got all sorts of mod ideas, that could be the place to start discussing them! For those of you who don't know, we have had a long and happy association with the crew at Mod DB, including the win of "Mod of the Year" for 2005. If you are interested in modding, especially in modding the upcoming Ostfront - click on the Mod DB banner above!

RO:O: Ultimate Realism

Left mouse button = left foot forward
Right mouse button = right foot forward
Mousewheel up = inhale
Mousewheel down = exhale

Not really, actually. Couldn't you have a great small- to medium-scale tactical sim with a zoomed out 3rd person view, with realistic numbers of squads and troops, RO's ballistics, improved AI? Instead of 16 v. 16, have 100 v. 100 or whatever. You wouldn't even have to change the maps, theoretically, just make occupied floors transparent, and reduce the poly count per soldier.

seriously, how would they make a mod of the cuban revolution though? i mean, there doesn't seem to be alot of sources that say what they were armed with in cuba and stuff. it would be cool though

They probably used pretty much anything -- which is why I think it would be really fun  Ak's, FAL's, Garands, Mausers, SKS's, hunting rifles, shotguns, M-14's, Tommy guns

PS

(no I do not wear "che" T-shirts ;))

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing the western front modded in. But I'd also like to see some other weapon options and the like. I've yet to play a game that has had functioning mortars. Not an effect, but players actually controlling the distance and "walking in" on enemy positions with their fire. If that's in this game I'll be even more overjoyed. But I feel it'd add a new level of tactical planning.

Vietnam would be cool to see modded, but I'm still more a fan of the WWII genre. I'd love to see modders move in on the Pacific Theatre. Get the Japanese side of the War for that intense Jungle atmosphere.

Lastly, the realistic damage, I've been waiting for a WWII game to come out where if you shoot someone in the arm they drop their weapon, if they take a shot to the knee they cant run and go down and the ability for players to lift or drag their dying comrades, pull them into cover. Which would add a very fun aspect to playing a Sniper. Blast them from your concealed position, watch someone try to come and help them. Then take them both out.

I know that may be a little too advanced, but I'd kill for that level of realism. Or atleast a Medic that would come out to help.

Monk, only if we can eat pickled herrings and pinebark can the Finnish Winter War be done. That and have the soviet side stupidly walk into Finnish ambush positions time and time again using the same lines behind tank tactic that so baffled the Finns as it was a turkey shoot :)

Oh, it would be fun to have cross country ski's moddled, Finns using them and Soviets having them strapped across thier backs as they didn't know how to ski :p

Personally a Kakoda Trail mod would be great. If it wasn't for the Aussies those Japs would never have had to learn the meaning of retreat :D

Spanish Civil War mod, North African Campaign mod, Pacific Theater Island Hopping Campaigns mod, Sicilian Campaign mod. More ambitiously: WW1 East African Campaign mod, multi-player Mediterranean Naval sub(s) vs. escorts and convoy mod, Gibraltar to Malta/Alexandria Convoy mod, Murmansk Convoy (surface action) mod .... :D

That's kinda we're it would lose the fun side of being a game though. That's more the sort of thing you go to see at the movies and what would the medic do in game? Try to stablise the wonded soldier and then move on? Because you can't just miraclously (spelling) heal someone in real life. We're not all Jesus. Somehow I don't think many people would be willing to drag their comrades out of the line of fire. Maybe to drag them into a big wall of bodies to hide behind...
