It's been a few months since my first map Kf-Multifarious and I'm kinda itchin to start another project. I'm very proud of the work I did with it considering I had to learn UED very quickly to enter it into wave2. I spent 511 hours(one quarter of an american work year) over the course of two and a half months(while still working at a real job. Blah blah blah...the point I'm coming to is..

I want to make a map that takes place in hell. Doesn't sound that unique I know. But I have some special ideas. I want someone to work on a map with, possibly a couple people (very dedicated people). Someone that knows UED inside and out. Especially someone that can create or locate some good custom textures that would work for hell. Someone that is very knowledgeable about good pathing systems and that kind of stuff. I can do a lot level design wise, pathing, lighting, monster zone placement etc. I'm also a good learner when it comes to things I enjoy, like making maps for KF.

If your interested check out multifarious and consider what I did there with two and a half months. I learned a ton with it and know I can make a map 5x better. Please consider and let me know.

I had pondered this idea for some time, but it would require a lot of custom meshes, something I don't have any knowledge about. I don't map anymore - but whatever you do don't just chuck down a fields of fire-emitters, it will lag like f-ck. You will probably need to be crafty about what exactly to make it - my idea would be to have the top of the level almost pitch black volcanic rock, spiky hills and huge craters, everything spouting fire.
Then, deep living caverns looking like wounds in flesh, as though Hell is a living creature (as in DOOM 2). You could design a texture for underground (under the skin of hell) that ripples, as though it is alive and throbbing. Perhaps some simple bone-meshes to make it seem even more organic, such as walking through a a snake skeleton of rib-bones...
Include some weird haunted house-wrecks and freddy-krueger dungeons above ground to spice it up a bit, and create an emitter than makes it rain ash, much like the snow effect in Crash, but black obviously.

as long as living caverns spurted blood when you shot the walls, i would find it awesome

I have a lot of ideas as well. I kinda don't want to spill on much except with someone to work with so that there is a real treat for people that play it for the first time.

Custom statics would be nice but I think someone with solid terrain making abilities would be better. IMO KF has a lot of hellish statics to offer and I want to see a good mix between a cliche looking hell and psychologicaly damaging scenarios with places that look like real living world buildings but are in fact taking place in hell through the use of subtle and less subtle hints.

This is the map I've wanted to make ever since I worked with HL's Worldcraft years ago. When I see games like dead space and Dante's Inferno I say to myself "I should have been there." I want to make a frightening experience and I know I can do it alone, but with someone's expertise I can make it even better.

Im learning modeling and I would be interested in making some custom meshes if you need some.
Im not that good at texturing but I could give it a try.

I would just need some gidance, I've never used the UED for anything else other than replacing character textures to make custom skins.

This is a model I was working on for something else.

Im thinking that this map could use some gothic architecture or some freaky stuff like people merged with the walls.

Hit me up if you are interested.

After talking about making a static mesh of a guy merged with a wall I thought "hey, it's Sunday, I have nothing better to do and it should be fun!" so I made this in 2 hours (it could still use some work).

If you want it it's yours!

oh baby

oh baby

dude....speechless...almost. That is so f***in WICKED. That would be an amazing piece of work in hell. Massive kudos to you! Can you get that textured? Anything you contribute will be greatly appreciated man, it all takes a lot of time.

I just started thinking of a basic layout today, but that requires me to use terrains which I can't figure out!! It's so frustrating for me to not understand it.

I need someone that can help out in that department to get a framework started, once I have that going it's on!

p.s. any ideas on getting some hellish textures? Anyone want to donate some or steer me towards some, or if that's not an option I guess I'll start making them.

I downloaded a random rusty wall texture and applied it to gey a rough idea of what it would look like.

Something like this:

Dudeinthewall06.jpg

Dudeinthewall05.jpg

(Textures are not aligned, it's just a test)

I just did this because it was fun, but I found a tutorial on this forum about importing static meshes into UED so I'll give it a try. If everything works fine the mesh is yours.

I think that the best thing would be to build the map first (Im afraid I can't help you with that) ad once you have the layout you can tell me which kind of meshes you need to make it look special.
But if you have any other ideas of things I could do for you let me know, I love modeling things :)

Glad you liked it BTW!

Sgt. Lag, look into pelt unwrapping, it'll make unwrapping things like this easier and will make sure you don't get strange transition lines like you have with the body/plate at the bottom ;)

Thanks for the advise, but I normally prefer to adjust those things manually.

This is still not finished (as you can see on the top) but it should give you a good idea of what Im talking about:

I might be interested, I do know a lot about UED, I've spent more than 2 months worth of time learning about it (and still learning more, and I don't mean recently I've been working with UED for over a year now), although i really haven't made a level and had it released before because of me being nitpicky, but I may or may not be able to help, I have been told that I'm good at decorating levels and junk like that, I have made some levels (I mean I made them but they aren't complete), I could criticize and help make a few changes here and there during development of the level. I have a lot of free time on my hands (which I use to play video games usually) but I would like to see where this project goes and help in anyway possible. (plus this would be excellent experience for me for the future)

SGT Lag that static is looking good. Can you email that to me or something? Ill set up a small room and check out if the size is working. I can adjust it within UED as well.

Yoshilast I will take you up on helping test the map out for sure. If you have suggestions I will listen to your advise.

I still really need someone skilled at making terrains!!! Hello!!! is there anyone out there? That's really what is required to get this ball rolling. If you are that person but you're like, "hey I dont even know what you want from me" then ask.

It may sound like I'm not even capable of putting together a map with all the help I'm seeking, but that's not the case. It would be really neat to collaborate with people that have amazing talents and combine their specialties into one really fun great looking zombiefest hell. Lets make a map that's on par with official TI maps!!

Ya I would be happy to test it.

I would help with the terrains but...:(terrains are my weakness...I mean I can do it...it just takes more time for me to screw around with it. (like 3-4 hours depending on how big the map is, and how many times I screw up trying to add in terrain materials overlapping each other) May I recommend trying to figure out a basic layout first? That's what I do when I'm try to make a map, it's a great idea.

BTW if your wondering my steam name is Yoshilast

I sent it to you a couple of days ago via PM, but it looks like it didnt arrive.

Basically, I finished two meshes and I wanted you to test them (they are both dudes stuck into walls, but in slightly different poses for variety).
I created a package in UED with it along with it's texture, this is my first package which is why I need you to test that it is working properly before I continue.

Said package can be downloaded from here. Just go to the static mesh browser in UED and open it, you shouldn't need to import it. Then yes please, make a simple room and tell me if it's working.

I think it turned out to be too small, but if you can resize it in the editor then great.

The fact that PMs aren't working is annoying, I know you sent one to me but it didnt show up in here, I only received the email notification of it.
So Im going to post my email and Steam ID (Im online most of the time), I'll asume spambots dont roam the TWI forums :D

Please try it out, if you like those meshes, they are yours! If you want other stuff in the future please let me know as Im enjoying this and Im learning a lot too.

PS: I liked your map, it reminded me to the old AVP game (in a good way).
Cheers, Alex.

I'd like to participate. If you're interested, PM me.
Umm...Buddy, not to sound offensive or anything but, why not give some information about your experiences and such with UED or something first, because anyone can just say "I'd like to participate. If you're interested, PM me.";) (for example my post above ^^^^ http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showpost.php?p=528043&postcount=12) (Yes I've seen your maps before I'm just trying to be constructive XD)

Terrain really isn't that hard. I'd suggest that you copy and paste one into your map from another map and just mess around with it to see what you can do with it.

Everything in terrain can be changed so if you don't like the textures you can just apply new ones. Any bits that require delicacy (sp?) just use the vertex tool.

Just ask me if you don't know how to do something. If you find that you definately can't get the hang of the terrain then I can do it for you but you should really have a go yourself.

Colonel Justice has dozen several maps, you should take his help if you can.

Yes, he should, I was just screwing with him :p

No terrain copying I don't like doing that. I know a lot about terrain it's just that we were never meant to be :)
