This reminds me of Republic Commando. Anybody play that? Pretty righteous.
yeah for such a simple and linear singleplayer game it was great.
parts of it really captured the feeling of being part of an elite commando squad doing their thing so well without any unnecessary fancy story twists and stuff.
i don't remember much, it was about 10 years ago i played it, but i remember the first part of the campaign going around sabotaging the droid bases and stuff while the battle was going on and it had such atmosphere and style, especially the ending of that part when finished all sabotages and escaping.
i can't think of many other fps games that have the clarity and confidence to just make stories and missions like that without resorting to the typical, boring and unbelievable:
"you're the one person or small group saving the world from annihilation"
or
"you're the best in the world and totally unique level of warrior"
typical nonsense.
alot of it just felt like being part of any commando unit going around doing real commando unit type missions and jobs and it did it so well.
it's hard to explain it just had a unchilderated uniqueness about its missions and objectives and story.
normally you only get that in tactical and turnbased types of action games but it had that while still being fast paced and cinematic and being on missions that is just nonstop slaughter and sabotage for hours like a real long epic job.

that's the ending of first part of game i remember when escaping after 1 hour 30 minutes of going around warzone doing stuff then escaping
edit: impersonal. that's part of how i'd describe the story being so great. everything completely impersonal to protagonists. and the pacing of the all the objectives another thing great in that game, not too long or complicated and not too short.
