7th Cav server here as well and with the VOIP improvements I have never seen so much teamwork. Russians are almost consistently winning and advancing in improvised fireteams. Normally Axis gets stacked with all the players, on 7th Cav the Russian side is stacked now.

VOIP is great. People misusing VOIP are bad.

Spartanovka, we lost the church. We had commander on channel and our squad leader left so I took over, because I had headset and microphone too. Commander demanded to hold ground behind the church (house buildings 1 or something like that):

[C]ommander: - Hold your ground!
[M]e: - I am trying, but I can't do it on my own! I've good position to cover the church. I need machinegun on left flank!
[M]e: - Machinegun to me on left flank!

Some time after that machine gun guy and I were holding ground and shooting down any German who wanted to get out of the church right into us.

[C]ommander: - Put artillery coordinates on the church!

I crawl out to get better position to place marker, check out the area for possible shooters, quickly put coordinates right before the church and crawl back again.

[M]e: - I put coordinates on the church! I request artillery strike, now!

Soon after that artillery has spoken - some explosions were very close to us, but we managed to survive entire bombardment - and after that the German finally managed to kill the two of us.

It was strict and clear use of VOIP that was far more effective than any in-game panel or text chat. I hope that with time more people will play this way. Machine gunner did the right thing: he followed orders he has been given and I did what I had to when my commander asked for it. We lost match point-wise, but Axis reinforcements ended quicker than ours, so it was close call.

In fact only squad leaders and commander NEEDS VOIP to coordinate everything. Other team members can give useful intel, but aren't as vital as main chain of command.

Other side of VOIP are people doing "comm chatter", spamming that useful tool with useless gossips. There are also people who doesn't follow orders no matter what and people who doesn't want to hear other people talking even if they're trying to bring some order into the battle which is easier, faster and more effective done by VOIP rather than command panel.

If you want to play in silence, be the lone wolf or simply chat then you chose the wrong game.

That's such an epic win :D

It reminds me of a friend who called my house phone number, asking me where I was.

What are you talking about? The only way to currently enter a vehicle such as a tank is by being in the same squad as the rest of the tank crew/commander. Thus without secondary vehicles such as a half track, squad voice chat perfectly suffices the need to communicate within the tank.

The VOIP works surprisingly well, and I've already seen people use it to promote teamwork.

I am talking about the matter that in most maps that have tanks, there are 2 tanks per squad ( 3 in Gumrak) so if you want to talk to the driver/commander in ur tank u have to include more ppl to that conversation than it is needed. 1 channel, 1 vehicle can only be achieved now in those situation with a 3rd party comm system.
Ofc in those maps that only feature 1 tank per squad the system works. So the current system is not as good as it could be. Would you agree on that?

The whole matter (problem) could be widened to the inf has as well. If I want to talk to the guy in some specific trench where i just got, depending if the mate is in my squad or not, I would have to include from 30 to 7 ppl in the sitrep discussion. Solution would ofc be 3D voip. Things can be made workable, good and great. The current system is not great.

Look, I use the in-game VoIP, and I still use Skype on top of it to communicate directly with friends. I was surprised to see we got three VoIP channels, I don't think the game can really accommodate more. 3rd party VoIP is always going to be useful, even with some of the best arranged VoIP systems.

Solution would ofc be 3D voip. Things can be made workable, good and great. The current system is not great.
The guts of 3d VoIP are actually already in the game. They couldn't make it work by release though so it has either been dropped or pushed back. They haven't said which.

RO2's VoIP is now equally as good as most FPS VoIP systems out there. That's a pretty decent place to tweak from.

The tank squad voip issue is easily fixed by just breaking them into two separate squads.

I'm glad that it's working but pretty upset that the muting option isn't listing anywhere near the amount of players on the server. It's been a spam/troll fest on the mic's in the couple hours I played online after this newest patch. And no way to mute them. Sigh.

Give it a bit of time. The tactical chat on the good servers has always been amazing. Try the servers that are not 64 slots. They seem to attract more of the VOIP spamming goofs. The smaller servers, even 60 or 50 man tend to be better admin'ed as well and the idiots are quite quickly booted.

I believe Squad Chat works as Vehicle chat. So that's either O or P by default. Hopefully these options will be in the options soon.

A belated Kudo's for the improved VOIP.

Teamwork went up 100%!
Let the intense tactical firefights begin!

Strategize, communicate and participate with your team/squad. If muting is not working for you, let the admins deal with the morons. (If its working now, the admins have the power to mute the trolls for everybody. As a player, you just have to let them know...either by voice, forum, email. It'll only make the game better if we know who to keep an eye out for.)

I only played yesterday. Best tactical and teamplay I've ever had in RO2 so far. Thanks TWI for a wonderful working feature!
