I will definitely have to play this, but I probably won't be playing it for long. My year-long experience with Heroes of Newerth was a turbulent one; the DotA community seems to attract the youngest and most immature of players. :(

At first I was disappointed they went with the more LoL cartoony look than the serious HoN look graphically, but then I remembered TF2 is cartoony as well. Made it a little less disappointing...interested in how different this game will play only one more day till we see.

Damn it, the English commentators of the stream sound like they are recording through their cellphones... Other than that the game itself looks like it will be quite fun to those who are into dota

I must be doing something wrong because I find even HoN to be cartoony. At least, I don't remember the old games dealing with fantasy stuff being this cartoony.

Watching the stream right now, and to the uneducated eye, I couldn't tell if I was watching Leagues of legends or Dota 2 if someone put two streams side by side.

They obviously did a bad job when setting the stream, even with this many viewers, it should not lag the game... but it did.

Maybe their stream server was on the same machine or sharing the same connection as the game server.

It's precisely the reason I avoid these sorts of games entirely. Ever since Warcraft 3 the community has been full of rampant elitism.

Man the stream quality and the commentators were so horrible I could only watch for 15min. Also the games seemed to stretch 25min longer then necessary.

From what I've heard it was an issue not only with the DOTA 2 stream, but bandwidth all throughout GamesCom.

There were tremendous lag spikes every time they neared 1 million viewers. So they switched off to a different method of streaming but kept the other languages on the old network. Well, the same things happened there too. Near a million, tremendous lag.

So it was both a factor of GamesCom not having a fat enough pipe for all that they had going on and the super high number of viewers for this.

Is DOTA 2 gonna be free to play?
I might wanna try such a game, but one was (is not anymore?) not free to test and the other had a stupid downloader which did not work for me. The two are HoN and LoL.

Both HoN and LoL are now free to play. I doubt DOTA 2 will be.

Great to see Gabe mention Tripwire as it is something everyone should know what it is (they are) =).

I could easily see Valve doing what they did with TF2 though, and pegging DOTA pretty low so its accessible. (And offering it as an incentive for other purchases.)
