I'd like to see the ability to, on some maps, spawn with enemy weapons, I'm thinking maps late in Stalingrad where the Germans were more desperate, and I know they especially liked the PPsh.

I'd also like the ability as a "hero" as an elite class be able to spawn with an enemy weapon, since a hero would presumably have killed enough of the enemy to have picked up some of their weapons, I mean like either an enemy pistol, enemy SMG, or enemy sniper rifles.

I'm not saying RO should be like WaW, it would only be limited and not be every weapon.

I kinda half agree with you. So uh...

+1/2

It will kinda make it neat and not WaW-ish.

But I think the hero would rather want the nice assualt rifle than the russian smg.

Options are cool though.

I actually like the PPsh better as a close range weapon, as long as I have comrades with bolts covering me at long range.

For the Hero class, so there's only the one on each team, yeah maybe, i could see that work.

But as a more general thing, i don't think that'd be a good idea, ideally a game like this should strive to present the rule, and not the exception, even if the exception did happen (as exceptions tend to do), it's still the rule we want to see 95% of the time, or it's just going to feel silly like in WaW.

Can you imagine trying to figure out if you can hold the weapon with one hand then, or if you'll still have to use two?

I want each side's standard issue weapons to function as accurately as possible, so maybe cross-training for enemy weapons is more than can be expected?

Guys I'm not saying for everybody, I basically meant heroes/elite and the Germans during the desperate parts of Stalingrad.

the german army used the ppsh right at the start of the war with the soviet union, and they used it a lot!

In the first months of the german advance in soviet territory they captured over 100 000 (!) ppsh and ppd.
It was the second most used infantry weapon for the wehrmacht on the eastern front!
In fact they found it worth to convert them to fire 9mm ammunition, altering the magazine housing to take the standard mp40 magazine.

So seeing a german soldier with a ppsh was NOT the exeption on the eastern front - it was very common.

I'd would be quite interesting for veteran/hero soldiers, when they could chose and spawn sometimes with enemy weapon.

Except that you always can pick enemy weapon from dead bodies.

Yes, but if you'd actually bother to read through veteran accounts you'll notice that most divisions forbade the usage of captured weapons by late 41, due to a high amount of friendly fire incidents, especially in wooded areas. Of course a lot of captured weapons are going to appear as soon as the situation gets desperate.

Except that whenever you go to pick up an enemy weapon you get shot in the face 5 times.

It wasn't just Germans who picked up enemy weapons. Russians did it very often too. There is a picture in "Stalingrad" by antony beevor, of a German being booted out of a bunker, with a Russian pointing an mp40 at the German. They picked up anything they could scrounge after their weapons broke or ran out of ammo. In the heat of battle and their gun jams, they could just toss it and pick up a dead Germans/Russians gun, still shoots bullets right?

That certainly depends on when you do it, if you're right in the middle of a combat zone, then yes, there's a good chance this is what would happen, but if you just cleared out the enemy from an objective, you are low on ammo from the fight, what's left of the enemy is falling back and the rest is waiting to respawn, then it's probably very safe to grab one of the guns lying around.

I don't see it being a bad idea since the Germans were known to use enemy weapons like PPSH. They even convert some to 9mm and wrote a manual for them. The SVT-40 would another weapon they could have as a German captured weapon.

id rather this idea not go thru and just allow the player to pick up enemy weapons scattered around on the ground.

So ya guys remember that in the first RO you could select ppsh for germans on some maps?
You dont even have to be a "hero" for that!

I dont really know why this should be a problem for RO2... ;)
