Using a Redirect for Faster Downloads

If i go and compress all these files and dont use a redirect ( just have compressed files and take out the roms) will this make map downloads any quicker? i guess i never new how long it takes to download a custome rom till i got a server didn't realize they were compress and downloaded from a diffrent spot so im trying to learn, is there a free map DIR that i can redirect to? or do admins gaurd these adresses?

Good question, does this work just by compressing the files and then deleting the originals or not...?

As for the second part, here's a public free re-direct server: http://www.skillzservers.com/kf-redirect/ which I will intend to use once I get mine setup correctly.....

No just tried it, it doesn't work by having the compressed files in the map folder and then deleting the original....
