The two yellow mortars on lyes krovy, dont u think it would b so cool to use them. I know this has been done before but instead of having artillery u could have mortars which u could use. For exmple on basovka at the german spawn point at the beggining instead of having artillery called in by binos and radio u could have one man with binos, he finds a target sets coords, goes up 2 a mortar presses action button and he starts dropping mortar rounds in and they land where he set the arty. This guy could b a mortar class person and he gets 6 goes with the mortar, each go putting about 4-6 shells out to the target.

Didn't the mod have some maps with usable mortars? You couldn't aim AFAIK, and I don't know how effective they were, but it was neat.

I think that is a great idea, i remember a couple of minutes ago on that map people were asking if the mortars were usuable.

I think many people would like this, and it would add to the realisim.

usable motors

usable motors

in order for a unit to be able to use a mortor it takes 2 - 3 men to use it so not just one man can operate it. so one man using a motor would not be realistic or in tune with the game. its a good idea to incoperate fixed position guns though and usable AT/MG positions the german flak cannons where the baine of english and russian tank crews because of there awsome fire power being able to take out a tank with one hit in the game the 88 is portrayed as is a aa or in a horizontal position

im not asking for a fully animated usable 88 just the horizontal one should be

I love the usuable mortars from Barbarossa in Call of Duty United Offensive. You could aim the mortars left and right, set the angle that you wanted to fire the mortar at (up and down), and then you could see the mortar arc in the air and come down on your enemy. It was my favourite weapon, too bad they never were mobile.

Yeeeeeesssssssss, MORTARS :D

I've been praying for them for a long time now.

They way they were implemented in Tali-Ihantala (sp) was just fine... static, no prob. It all depends on how they are placed in the map...

I dont think the actual shell flying through the air would need to be coded... how it worked in Tali was a small smoke animation would *puff* out of the barrel of the mortar along with a pretty authentic sounding launch noise, then it simply turned into a single arty drop that would land randomly in a small area, so you werent aiming it, it just landed in the predetermined area in such a way that it didnt impact in the same spot twice in a row. Also you could only hold and then launch one shell at a time, with a few seconds wait in between... so it didnt turn into constant non-stop shelling in the same spot, making it impossible to pass.

I think they would be great fun, if setup properly in a map where troops and/or armor needs to go by a certain area. You could have a couple of different mortar outposts on some bluffs overlooking a valley pass. The enemy would have to cross through. You could even make the mortar positions objectives that need to be satcheled/blown up. There are all kinds of ways they could be used... I have zero skills with the SDK to take on a project like this, but would love it if someone who has skills, did.

We should all beg Drecks :D

That would be great!

ballistics

ballistics

That concept would be fine in any other game. You forgot that one of the things that makes this game is the real world ballistics. What if a mortar hits a tank thats at an angle. Would it richochet and fly up in the air and land a few meters away? With your concept the explosion would happen under the tank where the ammo is usually stored (read users manual on site). Or it would destroy a tread even thought the mortar doesn't have an angle on that. an 88 would be intersting though. Just please not anything like call of duty uo or any call of duty game.

Well I'm sure you know how tanks react to arty in game, right? That is in effect what it would be... at least if you used the Tali way. It's simply a single arty strike launched by a player that lands in a 'predetermined area' originating from a mortar 'skin'.

A setup like that would please me, personally, and I wouldnt expect much more from a community modder/mapper.

However if Tripwire would take it up, then hell, they could probably get into rudimentary sights/aiming, a different strength and animation than the arty impact, and so on.

Either way, I can only imagine lots of fun if creatively combined with a map to suit their (mortars) use.

88's would be sweet too.

I agree that having usable mortors would improve gameplay. I think having a two man team would make it realistic. One using binocs to set the range and the other to fire and reload. Also, I think that there should be usable anti-tank guns. They already have paks in the game...why not let us use them! I can imagine some T34s coming at the German lines and two soldiers jump on the pak and take out a few of them. Maybe only certain classes could use them to make it more realistic...or they can add a panzerjager class maybe...just a thought.
