I'm a bit new to the internet gaming scheme so i apologize for the n00bness of this post.

Just curious- how often do updates to Killing Floor happen? Are they relatively regular or is it random? Are there likely to be any more updates after the incendiary one?

Also, is Defense Alliance 2 ever gone be made available to Mac users?

Unfortunately, defence alliance 2 has "died" meaning that nobody plays it anymore. :( RIP, DA2.

TWI updates KF whenever they feel they should. i.e. random! :)

It depends, there is 3 types of updates for KF.

  1. Map Whitelist Update
  2. Mutator Whitelist Update
  3. Content Update

The updates for the Whitelist (maps) are generally every 2 weeks. The Whitelist is a big list of maps that you can level your perks on. Lets say you decide to create a map, you won't be able to level your perks until you submit it for the Whitelist. Some people think that there is a blacklist, but its false. The Whitelist update doesnt require a Steam update and since there is a team to test the maps, TWI can make the updates on a regular basis.

The updates for the mutators are pretty rare. Just like for the map Whitelist, the mutators need to go through the whitelisting process before you can level your perks with a certain mutator. In this case TWI needs to look at the code of the mutator and then make a Steam update (thats why those updates are rare). If you wonder what a mutator is, you can see it as a certain gametype or as a mod for Killing-Floor.

Finally, the content updates will only happen a few times per year (or even once). Since TWI is busy with Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad, we dont see a lot of those updates. Most of the time, the content updates will contain a few fixes for maps/weapons/perks, new maps, new weapons or new DLCs like the custom skins.

Hope this answers your question and welcome :)

Do you have an clue how strange this is to me?

Nono, just hear me out. I'm used to gaming on consoles. I've gamed a LOT on the xbox 360 (no need for any war here, every system has it's charms. some appeal more to others, etcetera)

Everytime something new would come up (which was rare) you had to pay. I bought killing floor (recently, I didn't even know about it) and I saw that the game had gotten new weapons in the past. And new perks, I think. I don't know, but I must say. I'm impressed.

I mean, a free update, 4 new maps. That's just... wow. I'm having trouble wrapping my head around the concept of "free stuff".

Not that uncommon for PC games. Take a look at Team Fortress 2.

The problem with XBox360 is, Microsoft demands that they charge money for the DLC.

AFAIK, the first major update added the AK47, Katana and KF-Foundry (Or another aswell) Plus the first character pack, and the second added NINE new weapons, another Character DLC, the Demo perk, aswell as various bug fixes and balance patches provided with most updates.

Most of the maps they make official with the updates are top quality, amazing to play maps, made by the community.

I'm not so sure to be honest. It seems to be pretty much just Valve and Tripwire on the free updates side of customer service. Most business' are going down the Activision "Charge you

You're forgetting the company that makes the engine that Killing Floor runs off of, Epic. All the Bonus packs and patch/content updates are all free. Bonus packs 1 - 4 for UT, free, Bonus packs in 2k3 - 2k4, free. UT3's bonus pack and Titan Pack were free as well and don't forget the update list for patch 4 for UT3 which was about two pages long and had a completely redone UI with about 300+ items addressed.

The only time they charge is when content is released on the Xbox, and that's not an Epic decision, that's MS. :p
