I wish u never announced a DDE beta at all, would save us all so many nerves. :(

Ehh, at least now I wont F5 like crazy.. although it doesnt help at all with the "closer I get the farther away it seems" feeling.
yea no kidding the are never going to recover from this. I kown I'll never pre-order anything from them again. I think the game will be good and am really looking forward to playing it and I'll get RO3 when it comes out but I aint trust them again. count on that
P.S. there ok until they start talking and asking for money

Great to hear Ramm-Jaeger. I look forward to the beta with utmost impatience :D. However, I can understand why it was delayed. As a private map builder for another game, I understand that a Buggy product makes for a very unhappy consumer base.

Throw us a bone here!

Muhahahahaha...This is the best bit of news I've heard...Now You see John, this is why They rely on the Welsh to keep em straight...But look on the bright side...He does make a wonderful "Cup O Joe";):p:D...Take all the time You need, and Alan...I like mine with cream and 2 Sugars:p.

He can't answer, he's in solitary confinement for a week, with a copy of the beta and a pc with no internet access, c'mon the bots!

Thanks for letting us know. Although, posting this 2-3 days ago would have been far preferable, but better late than never I suppose. At least now we have some idea of what to expect.

Thanks Ramm! I appreciate the info and all you guys are doing to keep me happy for the next several years.

My 2 cents about this though:

Cent 1. The general time frame you outlined is about what I suspected was happening, so I'm all right with that.

Cent 2. A lot of the whining and crying we've seen here could have been avoided if your post would have gone up within a day or two of the date getting moved. This doesn't excuse some of the more illogical rants we have seen, but it may have helped to avoid them altogether.

To the ranters: keep the faith. If you are new here, stop to think for a moment what a unique company Tripwire is in this day and age of game development. Take another good look at the HD video we just good, and maybe a chill-pill or 3, and maybe...just maybe....spend the next week playing RO while you wait. It's been working for me....it could work for you!

lol, like I keep telling my teenaged son, who constantly insists that I watch his exploits on PS3 games: "I don't want to watch someone else play a game. It is not fun. If it is a game I like, I want to play it myself, not live vicariously through somebody else's fun." :)

Thanks

Thanks

Thank you for the info.
I can stop checking constantly now at least. A pity for us in the UK. No summer to speak of and a bank holiday weekend coming up with no RO2 beta. Could have made the weekend so much better.

But yes I understand your reasons and thank you for clarifying this once and for all.
@ Alan Wilson: I offered Yoshi free dental treatment for beta access but I will provide it for you. Always wanted to do an unnecessary root canal treatment without anaesthetics...:D

Still hope you guys will give us the beta for the weekend but whenever you think the amount of complaints are acceptable for you.

You probably understand that many of us are in our 30's and 40's but feel like we are 5 years of age and just don't get it why Christmas can't be a bit sooner!
So apologies for all the nagging but that is what 5 year-old do!

This is not a troll post nor meant to be snarky. I am just giving you an honest and well-intentioned heads-up that Steam still states that the DDE purchase will give you beta access prior to August 30th. That is just begging for a class action suit.

there has to be damages for a lawsuit. there are no damages or loss of money and no one got hurt becuase they might miss the deadline.

so? it's not a beta it is clearly a demo now? thought we we're helping with the game, instead they are fixing the beta and turning it into a final release stage demo. A beta would have errors and bug's that is what we signed up for and paid for :( i'll be patient but I'am just calling it what it is and it is not a beta it is a demo

Ok, I hate to say it again, but everyone needs to step back, take a deep breath, and calm down. You've got a shiny new MP HD video to enjoy, you've got a dev team that is slaving away night and day 7 days a week to get the game into your sweaty paws, and every day gets you closer to getting your hands on the game. So calm down a bit.

So what is going on with the beta? First off, I'll come right out and say this, the beta date was delayed along with the release. A dev (he who shall remain unnamed - Alan ... oops) put up a blog that said no internal deadlines were going to move with the delay. Unfortunately, he did this before he talked to the code department :) As soon as I saw that blog, I had him take it down, because while it was accurate to what he thought the situation was, the situation was different than what he thought it was when he made the blog.

Let's make one point every clear - our goal has ALWAYS been to give you guys about 2 weeks of time with the beta before the launch of the game. That has never changed, only it became a different two weeks. Now, we had an idea that we might possibly be able to extend that to 3 weeks when we delayed the release, but the reality of the bug situation make that not possible. At the end of the day, you should still get about 2 weeks with the beta like we've planned since we announced the DDE.

So this week "he who shall remain unnamed ... Alan (oops, I did it again)" let slip during an interview that the beta would be out very soon, possibly by the time the video was released. This was very optimistic on "he shall remain unnamed's" part, and he has been severely beaten and now knows to ask the code team before hinting about dates in the future :)

So where are we at? Right now we're nailing down some of the nastier bugs before we roll out the DDE beta. I know, I know "but but but, we don't care about bugs just give us the beta!!!" Well you say you don't care about bugs, but in reality if we don't fix some of these bugs before the DDE guys get their hands on it, a lot of average gamers (and even some of the "RO fanbois") are just going to complain to everyone about the bugs. There are levels of bug severity, and we want to clear up a certain level of bugs before we move on to the next stage. Don't worry, we'll save some bugs for you to find in the beta - we promise :)

So then what is the answer to the question everyone wants to know - when will the beta be released. I'll put it in big bold letters here so no-one misses it:

The beta will most likely be released early next week, probably around August 30th!

That is NOT a promise, it is a target date. It could shift a day or two, so if August 30th comes around and the beta isn't released that day don't come to these forums saying "but you promised it would come out today!!!" We don't "promise" - games development is not an exact science. It is more like warfare - you might shoot to capture a city by a certain date, but battles don't always go exactly to plan.

Some of you may still be irate after reading this thread. If it bothers you that much, please go to Steam and get your pre-purchase refunded and then just order the regular edition and play with everyone else on September 13th. There is no need to fill the forums with ranting on this subject any more. I'm going to instruct the moderators to close any new "where is the beta" thread, and delete any posts taking threads off topic with "where is the beta" posts.

So lets move on, talk about the new HD trailer, the new screenshots and stories, how cool it's going to be to get our hands on the game, etc. I'll see you guys on the battlefield next week!

You say you didn't break any promises, that is a lie, let me point out one that immediately entered my mind when I read your post:

You promised that this would not be the kind of PR/marketing beta that has become all the rage these days, you promised that it would be a proper, nitty gritty testing experience and that we would be able to have an impact on the finished product as a result, this was a lie. You point out in your own post that the reason you're keeping us out is because people will whine about bugs - what the **** kind of reason is that?

Your inability to have good communication within your studio is frankly not our fault, you (as an entity) made pledges, statements and announcements as fact that turned out to be false later, your empty platitude of showing up after more than a week of radio silence to tell us it was all a misunderstanding is something I consider insulting.

Now usually I would be on the side of the "no harm done" brigade, but people made purchasing decisions based on official news announced and propagated by your team, you have a lot of leeway with the community given your good track record, but you're chipping away at it pretty rapidly with this new policy of misinformation and ignorance after the fact.

The ability to tell people to calm down was lost the moment you named a date, started taking money and then delayed the release, which was a slap in the fact, followed by this new slap in the face, lovely job guys! If you did what you said you would in the first place, people would have no grounds to be irate, instead of calling us nerdragers why don't you try to understand that this is entirely of your own doing?

So I will take part of your advice and request a refund of my DDE, but I won't be re-purchasing anything and if I could I would get a refund on my original RO I'm so disgusted. Of course, given that you've left it so late to impart this gem of wisdom on us - the unwashed masses, and with Steam Support taking multiple weeks to solve tickets, there's a good chance that I'll be locked into buying your game anyway, but I have a sneaking suspicion than in light of your new business practices, that is exactly what you intended to happen.
