UnrealED seems to lag considerably.

Okay, well I am new to the whole mapping thing. I took the advice of the stickies in here and watched some videos before I jumped in...and they helped immensely.

The only problem I've encountered is a bit of lag for seemingly no reason. I have a very small room, and in which I added a spiral staircase (one brush, 36 steps high, 256 width and 12 steps per 360.)

This is where I started encountering the lag. It's like, I have to go in slow-mo otherwise my cursor just jumps back to whatever pane I was working in (like, it keeps jumping back to the bottom right hand pane and won't come out.)

Really, this is all new to me. I've never touched UnrealED before, but I have worked with the Source SDK quite a bit over the past year. Any help is appreciated.:D

Hey Locutus, I was watching one of the 3dbuzz vids on UnrealED and it was talking about the Realtime Preview on the panes causing lag; this feature will update the preview enabled pane based on the active pane you're working in. On each individual pane is a joystick button, that is the realtime preview toggle.
Hope you get back to mapping smoothly.

Peace!

When i get to this serious lagg issues in the 3d view, I will "look away" for the lag area, and build with my back turned to the area. I even have everything special turned off, and it still lags.

Hope this helps.

use q w o to toggle textures, statics and volume zones off and on. This can significantly reduce lag. S will toggle the highlight highlight on and off which can help too, although it might make things a bit confusing. Switching to wireframe can also help.

I tend to find that UED goes slow after you've rebuilt the map a few times.

And if your using Projectors / Sounds / Triggerlights, it makes it worse each time you rebuild.

Closing the editor then re-opening is the usual cure.
