How about Germans wearing Red Army coats? Well it might result in a bit of teamkilling, but how about an arm badge and also the running animation is different.

Why I'm suggesting this. By late 1942 and early 1943 the Germans who were short of winterclothing took it from the dead Russians.

Yes, it was very common for Germans to wear captured clothing. But those clothes were wore allways UNDER (ofcourse not without exeption) their own great coats, winter camo etc.

Why do you guys want thing totally balanced? That how CoD is, in Red Orchestra most things are given their real life advantages and disadvantages, not like dying of typhus but say for instance, the PPsh is JUST a better gun than the MP40, but maybe the the MP40 has an advantage because it doesn't run out of ammo as much.

Or the T34 for instance has better armor and tracks than a Panzer IV, the Panzer IV's advantage is its separate commander, faster reloads, and better optics....

You can argue that the MG34 and MG42 have more firepower than the DP28, but guess what? The DP28 doesn't overheat as much....

So not every advantage completely owns the other team, maybe winter camo kicks :IS2: when hiding in the snow, but maybe it makes you stand out when you're in front of a grey building.

Also maybe the Germans weren't doomed from the start, perhaps they could've broke through and turned the tables on the Russians, you can argue all day about that, but don't say that everything has to be perfectly evenly balanced.

My 2-cents,

Everyone will start out looking clean and shaven for the first week or two than after that you're Desired Ruggedness will be the norm. I like them implementing it, as it's a Unique thing that sets you apart not only visually, but also tells others if you are a Newb or Godlike. Imagine the crap you could give your buddies who are brand new, "Awwww...did your mother pack you your Uniform?" or for the clean shaven aspect "so whose the lucky girl you little rascal!". IDK, it sets up a different and unique aspect of realism for me. Realistically Yes, most everyone would be somewhat dirty, but you always have to remember Germany and Russia were pooping out new Recruits all the way till the end of the War.

Perhaps if ALL of the soldiers have dirt/grime of some level on them it will work better. I mean they will probably have it like that from the get-go, you aren't gonna see a German Soldier Propaganda Model all clean like running through the snowy/muddy messes of Stalingrad as your newby model, they may be clean shaven and care more about asthetics, but I agree with TWI that more advanced players should look like they care more about getting down and dirty Killing the enemy rather than dotting the I's and crossing the T's and making sure your shoes are clean for the Officers as a Recruit would do.

But there shouldn't be much difference between German and Russian greatcoats like one's white and the other is dark. I hope they make German winter coats between green and grey (not too green) and Russian ones depending on the model, like dark brown for the greatcoat and light brown for the telogreika. The snipers from both teams should get winter camo.

Running into a mushroom cloud
Hitler specifically told the commanders in Stalingrad that he would not send winter gear to the troops until they took the city (not exactly the best motivation). So it makes sense for Wehrmacht troops to not have winter camo or heavy coats even in '43 maps.

As far as ruggedness goes, maybe the level of wear&tear will be in context to the timeframe of the battle. So 'fresh' troops will still have the cleanest uniforms, but they will still be pretty dirty compared to uniforms worn in the earlier battles

By mantel, do you mean the heavy trench coat? I was under the impression that trench coats were considered 'winter gear' since a trench coat is pretty warm, I don't think I'd be very comfortable wearing it in temperatures over 50 degrees (Farenheit)

I mean great coats (mantels) like this M40.

And they were all-year-gear, used also on summer. For example as "blankets" when sleeping, when it rained, when on sentry duty etc. etc.

THIS!, from reading in many of the threads it would like you want all the gun stats to be equal in every way....
Not everything can be balanced.

I mean take the uniforms in bfbc2 for example.

russian medic red cap
american medic camo cap

its not really unfair it just mean the as a russian medic you need to remember people can see your hat when you hide in trees.

Well, mainly for the reason that it is just simply impractical.

The very odd white among the POWs.

In total I can see 4 here, I may have missed one or two. An officer and 3 soldiers. (Some of these are Russians, so don't be mistaken.)
