[Question] Unable to get going in multiplayer game

Hi all.

This is my second attempt to make this post. My first went off to be approved and I've not seen it since (was only last night though)

Apologies if I'm doing this wrong. I'll try my best to describe my issue.

Bought the game a couple of weeks ago. Managed to get on a few servers, got killed lots, then went to single player to learn the basics for a week or so

Back to present day. So I can get a list of servers. I can join a server. I can select a team. I can select a class and click in an empty squad position (it doesn't add my name under it, not sure if its meant to or not). At this point the continue button bottom right does nothing. Not sure if that is by design or not.

Press escape and see other players playing the game. See the spawn countdown on the left counting down. When it hits 0 I don't spawn and I notice that players are running into walls, not deviating from their path. This seems like my connection to the game must have died right?

Should add that I have a bt homehub 2 and I applied the steam masterserver file fix already.

Am I being and idiot and doing something wrong here?

A few people with Thomson / BT routers have recently started saying that they've applied the files and they're still timing out on servers. You can always open the console with the ` or ' key and type reconnect and press enter and it should reconnect you to the same server with no further problems, until you return to the server browser. If I get a chance tonight I might see if there has been some change that has prompted the files to stop working.

Just to check, this is just clicking multiplayer and then picking a server from the Ranked tab? Not clicking on Favourites or Friends?

Also, if I install the MasterServer.vdf file(the normal fix), it will run normally until I restart Steam

So if you could check the change files of the latest updates, I'm sure you will find the bug that has caused the trouble

One last thing: Which key is the console on eu(german) keyboards

Yes, I let the server browser refresh, chose a ranked server (from the ranked tab) and connect to it. I've never really had any problems connecting to the server. It's more the act of spawning that doesn't seem to happen coupled with other players running into walls indefinitely etc makes me think connection problem.

Thanks for the reconnect tip. I shall try that now and report back.

I would guess that Steam is over-writing the file on launch - are you sure you made it read-only?

One last thing: Which key is the console on eu(german) keyboards

I'm not sure, sorry, you'll have to try tapping a lot of keys to find out! Perhaps someone else with a German keyboard will answer.

Which do i make Read Only? Just system or all? and do i have to take away all properties except read?

Hey again.

Just to add to the info, my updated masterserver files are read only so i'm not sure that's the problem my end.

If its a known issue with the router then I guess its time for a new one

Just the masterservers.vdf and masterserver2.vdf files which you placed in the Steam\config folder. Right-click on one of the files and select properties, and then tick the Read Only checkbox at the bottom and click OK, and do the same for the other one.

Okay have now replaced the .vdf files with freshly downloaded ones

Made them read only
Currently everything works fine
Will report back tomorrow or in the next few days if it stays so

Also found console- it is F3- thanks to fiftyone for the hint

So i just restarted Steam

in my first game- though i have the new files read only- same bug
However after a reconnect using console I was able to play on the server and on another one

So until we have a fix for the router problem(again), i recommend using console(F3)

I just bought the game today, same problem here.
I have a Thompson router but using console > reconnect doesn't help.
After 2 hours of "try this, try that, read only files mumbo jumbo" I still can't play damn game.

I'm so disappointed and want my money back.
