Unable to connect to any server

It could be attributed to me using the SDK, But at this time, I cannot join any servers, it just stays at the index.rom black page.

I Haven't altered any core files which should make the game not work.

Its strange because I can't join games, but if I host a server, people can join my game, Is it due to servers not being updated or... I dont know, all I know is I cant join a single online server.

And Its not just that, when I look at the info for the servers, it says 4 / 6 people playing, but in the server info box at the bottom, its listing around 8 players or more, those dont include spectators as spectators are shown in white, these are all red active players with increasing scores, same thing every server.

Any ideas, let me know.

I have the same problem but I cannot find a file under that name at:

steamapps\common\killingfloor\System

Is this the right path?

Yes, that's the right path. If that file is not there, then you've got some other problem.

I am not quite sure what has changed since the last update but what how do you recommend I approach the problem?
Should I delete the System folder and retry verifying cache?

Edit: I am also having the same problem with Red Orchestra but since I saw someone face the same issue here on the KF forums, I decided to post it here.

Deleting the System folder from both KF and RO and reverifying is fine to do, though you will lose any custom settings you have like keybinds and resolution settings - but if you can't get into a game then it is the best thing to try.

I'm Having the exact same problem. I don't have the steam_appid.txt file, just steam_appid.dll, and deleting that made the game refuse to launch. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game three times now. It still hangs at the index.rom screen and won't let me join any games. I've turned my firewall off, any other ideas?

Ok here is what I did:

1) Deleted System folder from RO and KF
2) Verrified my files and steam redownloaded the 32mb system folder which now includes the steam_appi.txt file
3) Tried to join but could not
4) Deleted the steam_appi.txt file
5) Tried to join and still could not

This is the first time I face such a problem with either RO and KF.

samethings happening to me, i joined one server but then the game said not responding and disconnected me. and i still cant get in a server.

*A Quick Update*

Strange things are going on.

I just woke up this morning to try connecting to the same server I did last night and it worked.
I performed a packet capture and compared it to last night's one and found no differences especially on port 7757. All seemed normal.

I am going to test this again tonight.

You have to right click on the game in steam and then click properties.
Look for a button called Verify Cache or integrity.
Sorry I do not have steam open to tell you the exact name.

For those not using the SDK and that don't have the steam_app.txt file. Make sure KF is in the allowed list of your security software. If it is already there, remove it and allow the security software to relearn the program.

I seem to be having the same problem. I actually noticed the issue when I tried to fire up KF a week or two ago, which was the first time for me in about a month. Between that time I know that at least a few relatively minor updates occurred. I was seeing the same issues as I'm seeing now, but it was only a day or two before the update that coincided with the summer event was about to be released so I just assumed it was just server maintenance stuff.

Also, I don't know if this is related, but whenever I refresh the server list I only see at most 30-40 servers (and that's without using any filters). They are of varying latencies and the list takes much longer to load (10-15 seconds as opposed to the usual 2-5 seconds). I'm almost certain that there are plenty more servers than that, but for whatever reason I'm only being shown a fraction of them. I've tried everything mentioned and have had no luck.

Hello Xienen, I'm using a Netgear CGD24G. It's new, and I assumed that maybe I just needed to do manual port-forwarding, but that didn't get me any results either. Because it's a new router I just assumed that it had something to do with my setup (I recently moved into a new apartment), but if it's something that other people are experiencing lately then maybe it's something else. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, removed the EXE from firewall exceptions, let it add itself again, manually added it, deleted the system folder and repatched the game, and manually reopened the ports the KF uses. But I still lock up and the black index.rom screen and can't join any multiplayer games. I have no idea what else to try.
