the reason i say this is because on my Core i5 @ 3.6/GTX260 SLi machine i can run all the settings on "ultra" except for shadows, but if i turn shadows down just one notch to "high" i can maintain a constant 60 fps vsynced, other wise the fps tank hard.

so i figured with my main rig that has a Core i5 @ 4.2 and GTX460 SOC 1GB SLi i should be able to take the shadows up to "ultra" but the fps tank on this machine also untill i drop the shadows down to "high".

Dev's what do you think?

rig 1:
core i5 750 @ 3.6, GTX 260 SLi, 4GB ram, win7x64, 270.61 WHQL

rig2:
Core 15 760 @ 4.2, GTX460 SOC 1GB SLi, 4GB ram, win7x64, 280.26 WHQL

In another post they said something like the shadows ultra are really hard on the card. They stated it would easily drop fps with 20.
I cannot try it here though:rolleyes:

ya, they're hard on the gpu alright! because my second machine is way more powerfull than the first and it cant run on Ultra either, other than that setting the settings on both machine are the same!

no biggy, i can't tell the diff between Ultra and High anyhow ...

Really? I've been running all ultra with no problem, I've got
Core i7 3.4ghz gtx 275 4G RAM. Mine seems worse than yours and I'm running smoothly. Maybe it is bugged.

i just thought it was strange and wanted to see what the devs think ... its NOT drivers, because as you can see im running 2 different families of drivers. 270's and 280's ...

I'm also running Ultra settings including shadows at 1920x1080 with a GTX 470. I am averaging 30-40 fps with the highest AA level, I think it is 32MLAA.

I am using driver 280.16 the beta driver right before the latest WQL one.
Post processing I have as normal.

My driver settings are all set for program use and all performance filters are off. quality set to High.

Game looks brilliant.

Ultra runs real time shadows on almost everything. It is a performance HOG. A 260 is likely not able to run it. A 460 would probably have trouble as well. It needs a top of the line card to support (480/580 or AMD 6800)

i hear what your saying but both my rigs are running sli. GTX460 SOC SLi and GTX 260 SC SLi. i would think GTX460 SLi heavily overclocked, which is on par with a GTX580 or a bit faster in some cases should be able to handle "ultra" shadows, no?

You got your response - it's heavy on performance.
"should be able to handle "ultra" shadows, no?" is a stupid question when the answer is so obvious.
