I was once bitten by a dog. The point of bite was quite funny; upper lip(s) on the right side. Left a small scar also.

Not that I am affraid of dogs in general, I used to have one, but if a dog makes any sudden move while I am nearby (or very close) I will make a

Cats are cool, they can do whatever they want and if you stand in their way they scratch you.

Peice of advice next time a dog tries that especially if its small enough just kick the little bugger when he goes for you, or throw a stone at it, for gods sake we're the dominant species on this planet dont let a dog scare you then again if its one of those vicious breeds like bulldogs etc run like hell:p.
Bulldogs arent that bad actually(english bulldogs much worse than amreican though:p), according to a chart of statistics from http://www.dogbitelaw.com/PAGES/statistics.html
My father still has a rotty, afaik. First time I met it, I had gone to his house, he said, come in. I open the door and get charged by it. Of course, I have enough sense to realize that if the dog was a propblem, I wouldve been told to wait while he put it outside. The "problem dog" was actually a little POS terrier. God I hated that little bastard! Always biting at my ankles, barking its head off almost constantly... I SO wanted to drop kick that damn dog.

Animals don't know who the heck you are, to them you are a threat until otherwise proven.

I know, but in both scenarios it has nothing got to do with that generic mistake people often does (and you didn't say so - I know). That dog thing came out from nowhere and that cat thing, well it was partly my mistake, but still I dunno why it wanted to slash my eye off :p

Still it does not have anything common with that "Hey a nice dog yay" *grr* "May I touch it?" *GRRR*- mistake.

Ironically, after that I have never seen a dog being really 'aggressive' to me.

If a dog comes for you the trick is to stick your arm out so it will clamp on then you gotta reach for some keys or a pen or just your fingers and go for its eyes. If you dont give it your arm there is a chance it might go for your neck or face which = pain, death and disfigurment. Besides if you stabbed a dog to death with your keys you would get immense bragging rights both in the pub and on RO forums.

In some Siberian towns like Surgut there is a huge problem with feral dogs that, when they start getting hungry and desperate in winter, will try and attack a lone human.

My mate was told that if he ever came across such a pack that he should NOT try and run. What he was told to do was to stoop down and pretend he was picking up a rock. The dogs are so used to having people throw rocks at them that they automatically run away when they see humans making this motion.

Thank you Dr Pavlov.:)

Also, as a total last resort, the muscle connecting the dog's breastbone and forelegs is usually pretty weak so when it jumps at you you can, if you are quick, grab the forelegs and wrench them far apart. This tears the muscle and dislocates both front legs, crippling the dog.

Good to know! Bonus point for the Pavlov reference

If I was ambush attacked by a dog I'd probably resort to a choke hold and just choke the dog till it's unconscious since the only dangerous part of a dog is it's head (no razor sharp claws to worry about). Control the head and you're fine.

I have been bitten by a German Shepherd on the leg, but fortunately it let go afterwards and didn't tear me to shreds.
