TWI made survivalist as there aren't REALLY any other perks they can do, right?

Not Here
I was thinking MA would literally play totally different from Zerk instead of just being a faster version. Like that jump attack thing, a jump attack could instead produce a jump kick that knocks zeds over or sends them staggering backwards. The class wouldn't be about solo'ing big zeds, it would literally be constant sprinting around, a few slices here and there, kick a zed away from a teammate, race over to another teammate and slice up the crawlers, etc. Like you said, light attacks are fast and do good headshot damage, and the attacking from behind would be cool. Heavy attacks would be really cool if they did a slight wind-up animation AKA Martial Artist. So instead of a Zerker who pumps out attacks rapidly and savagely, the MA would be a light, fast and squishy target who needs to keep moving to survive. Delivering mostly light attack combos and occasional heavy "special moves" like a sweeping strike that has a huge arc, or a jumping stab that can stun on headshot, or a leg chop that can knockdown zeds. And don't forget the jumpkicks. Oh yeah and fists instead of a knife so you can palm strike and spin-kick zeds in the face.

Nobody really knows anything about MA at all so it's impossible to really know what you're missing other than the katana I guess. Everyone seems to have a completely different idea of how it would work, and is often something silly like anime magic or whatever.
The name "martial artist" itself wasn't even official, it was fanmade, which probably skewed peoples expectations.

I definitely hope to see whatever other weapons it had make their way into zerker

Yes, Tripwire made Survivalist, because it's a perk they havent done yet.

I'm looking forward to it.

Berzerker should be all about dealing damage via each hit dealing a ton of damage and surviving via having a lot of health/damage resistance and being able to regain health in combat. Leave it with the weapons it had.
Martial Artist should deal damage by being able to attack very fast and survive by moving fast out of danger. Give it a kama, katana, long bow and arrows, and a war scythe.
While they seem oh so similar with these descriptions, anyone who has solo killed the patriarch in KF1 with only a knife knows the difference between being able to take a hit and being able to not be hit. By taking away the zerks speed and attack speed, and replacing it with health and damage, he will lose the ability to take on hordes of zeds, but be better at taking out the large zeds and without either moving or help, he will be taken down, thus reducing the zerkwall to a temporary measure only. By having high speed and attack speed, the MA will be able to cut through hordes of trash, be able to cross the distance to ranged zeds with little damage, and eventually take down large zeds without taking damage with a lot of practice. These will play nothing alike and if you try, one will die rather fast.

Another perk idea would be a zed killer. The knife would be a bloat cleaver. The grenade would be a vial of bloat bile. t1 would be a gorefast sword. t2 would be a directional siren scream or the husk cannon. t3 would be the scrake chainsaw or fleshpound blender. t4 would be the patty's minigun or hans' assault rifles with grenades. I think that this would be a hilarious perk to use.

I just thought of survivalist weapons. katana with a pistol in the crossguard. Its a real thing. Medic shotgun, Demo Assault rifle. Smg with an underslung flamethrower, sniper rifle with an axe on the end. Any more dual perk weapons people can think of?

I hope Scientist gets added some day... frying a fleshpounds head with a high powered laser would be a blast (literally). There's so many cool weapons that perk could have... gravity gun, beam rifle, etc... and it fits with KF2's sci-fi theme. Survivalist sounds even more boring that SWAT.

TBH, i have to wonder if the Martial artist can get away with not having a Tier 2. I would've figured this would be a good theoretical M.A. loadout

$200: Katana
$600: H&K Mk23
$1200: Dual Mk23s
$1500: Guan Dao
Perk Knife: Fists
Grenade: Impact Grenade (50% more damage on centermost target, 50% less damage otherwise)

Considering KF2's still a ranged game, i figured a pistol like the Mk23 would be an awesome choice to unload before cutting them into bits.

LOL... Yeah sure like they havent done every other perk bar 9 others! Thats not saying much. Just seems to me (and probably alot of ppl) that they took the easy option. Still we wait to see what they actually come up with!

I just dont think theres a need for another melee class in a game where guns are king.

Well, a melee class in a ranged game could work if the guns associated with that perk were actually useful. Prior to the cancellation of Martial Artist, I have at one point suggested that the Mk23s should act as the M.A. perk weapon because KF2 is still a ranged game. :x

Also considering zerk is better than most perks, "guns are king" doesn't really make sense
