Well I feel for you lol. After quitting the game, I come to take a look at teh forums, to see the state of things, all I see is threads like this, wanting to put classic features in realism, and mostly wanting to take out all squad features.

THe roost vets have killed this game like I never seen a community do before. They are still continuing until no one will play the game and all there is left is roost vets on the forum complaining.

All the good features are not being finished because the vets oppose them. The game is digressing into a roost with better graphics, because all other things will be opposed by people who are still romantically engaged with a game that is dated.

It is hard to believe a community can kill their own game. THen Yager in this thread proves he doesn't even understand how teamwork works himself...

Sad sad sad, but no hope for this title. Boy am I glad to be playing the planetside two beta where I can play with all my friends properly in squads, up to 48 ppl in a platoon with 12 per squad.

Your nostalgia is invalid roost vets. Your game will die because you robbed it of all interesting features and have ALREADy chased away all good teamplayers. THe only chance for RO2 now is a total conversion that fixes everything the devs failed to finish, but it is probably too late because all that is left is grumpy old roost vets.

Ahh good riddance, good luck getting your game to be perfect(ly devoid of other players)! Come play something else, teamplayers. They don't understand, it'll get worse.

Lies, misinformation, confusion, please, do go on. It's amusing. Not really adding anything to the thread. Probably worthy of an infraction from trying to derail it... hm, your typical work.

The roost vets killed the game? With what? Their disappearance?

Weird dramatic post

ok post, 2/10 for effort, not that good of a troll.

The roost vets killed the game? With what? Their disappearance?

haha I can't stop laughing

So can we get back to this thread being about spawn on SL being a server option or removed or whatever because the vets already tried before telling Tripwire that the game was a disappointment and it got us nowhere.

I like the spawn on SL, but should a server admin feel the need to disable it, s'pose it wouldn't hurt too much to let it be a whitelisted server option.

^ From a RO:OST vet. Don't lump large groups of people into the same boat, they've all got different opinions and interests, and some are more easy-going than others.

Actually yeah, if you profess to love a game so much at least have the decency to stick around and try to help it. The vets that left here did so rather quickly after they realized that TWI was going to immediately cater to their every whim and want. If you love a game so much , simply abandoning it because things arn't exactly how you want it NOW is a very immature thing to do , which frankly speaks volumes about the character of the people that did leave.

Sure the vets might not have been the sole cause of RO2 's current condition, but they sure as hell did nothing to help , at least the ones that left anyhow.

They are not the cause, they didn't make RO2. And they did, and some are still doing all in their powers to help. Don't start blaming the vets, as it is consensus that they had very little sway in how RO2 turned out. If anything, who's at fault is mainstreamers and TWI trying to cater to them.

People are playing a war game, and the next installment of the game features barbie. The fault is suddenly of the people who were playing and suddenly left?

If anything, the people who left, vets or not, are speaking with their actions, the market speaking. And many are simply waiting for the game to be ready for them.

I really wish some people would stop blaming the so called ROOST vets. Sure, some left for various reasons, but others are still around. Me and the others all have various opinions.

Also, you have to wonder how many of the pre-sale and initial sales of the game were from ROOST vets? Whether they liked the game or not after release, I would guess a HUGE chunk of those sales were from those/us guys.

Well, a lot of vets tried to help. Right after launch there were dozens of vets creating threads about the problems the game had, but most of them were ignored by TWI. Once Ramm quoted a post of mine and said that these forums represented only 0.0001% of the playerbase, basically saying our opinion was meaningless. Many people gave up on RO2 after that, and several were banned from the forums when the discussion got too hot and became an exchange of insults between vets, newcomers and TWI boot-lickers. Classic took a bit too long to come out, and even when it did, it wasn't what people really asked for. So the vets tried, but were ignored. Most of them were done wasting their breath after being ignored so much. But there are still a lot of us around, those who don't mind wasting their breath and still believe in RO2. Surviving this far in these forums wasn't easy though.

Blasting TWI for betrayal and causalizing "your " game doesn't really make for any thing constructive. How exactly were the vets ignored as a whole, Classic mode although not necessarily everything the vets dreamed it would be, was made specifiaclly because of the demand for it on these forums. The only vets that you can say were truly ignored were the extreme ones like Cyper and that factor14 guy, and frankly its more than justified. TWI put the effort in to try and please the vet crowd, but due to the lack of cohesion within the vet community of what actually is needed pretty much decided Classic mode's fate. Sure you didn't get exactly what you wanted but you sure as hell weren't ignored.

So you rather the game stagnate with a population consisting purely of "elite vets" rather than try something different? And once again you do not read my post, as I never said it was the vets fault that the game turned out the way it did, but to say the ones that left saying "FU TWI , FU RO2, filthy casuals" did anything to help is ridiculous - at least the ones left on the forums are actively suggesting new ways to improve the game that doesn't amount to
"screw everyone that doesn't like ROOST". If the vets that left were passionate enough to suggest we remove entire gamemodes or dropping large portions of the game's player base, they should at least stayed to see it through. But nope, they left in a huff like angry child that didn't get what he wanted, only to moan on the sidelines about how unfair it all is .

People's wishes for more realism and more authenticity were interpreted as ''closer to RO1.''

RO1 is in the past. And after classic was launched, it dawned on people, why we grow tired of things in the past and need something new. We played RO1 for 6 years. It was good, but now is over. Trying to bring it back from the dead was a waste. So in a sense, a lot of vets were not ''ignored'', but everyone's wish for more realism, being a vet or not, were ignored

And I can prove that simply by stating that: RO2 still lacks a realism focused game mode.

That's only after they realized they lost most of the casual crowd as well. In the end RO2 had very few RO1 vets and even less newcomers playing the game. They tried to replace their old community for a new one, but when they realized that wasn't working, they returned their attention to the vets again. TWI is still ignoring some stuff, like the MKB/AVT discussion. Almost every single RO1 vet was asking for the removal of these weapons, at least on Classic mode, but there they are. They don't want to de-casualize the game, even on Classic. I appreciate the effort TWI has put on Classic, but it just wasn't enough, unfortunately.

It would have been enough, had it not been misguided. Removing zoom, there was something wrong with that line of thought. Wish for more proof? this thread is proof. And current classic zoom sucks bad right now.

I think that has more to do with TWI not wanting to waste the effort in actually putting together the code, sounds , and animations for the weapons than anything. There really should be an option to disable themcompletely , but in Classic they are limited enough that it shouldn't be a major problem unless you NEED 100% historical accuracy, which I guess a lot of the vet crowd does want. Also I don't see how after you factor in the fact that the MKB/AVT is affected by the handling / sway change in Classic that they are some how causalizing the game, sure they have a lot firepower (the MKB at least) but thats what they were designed for, the only thing you can really argue is that its historically inaccurate, which from the evidence we've seen so far it is.

And yet again a lot of the vets wanted the game to be more similar to RO1, and one of the most frequently asked for things during the phase that TWI was working on Classic was the removal of zoom.

That's not exactly the issue. The RO1 vets asked for no zoom, but there was still the automatic IS zoom.

The vets were the ones who supported TWI the most. A lot of them bought more than one copy, just to support the company. Nobody likes seeing their favourite game becoming something entirely different than expected, and for the worse.

I'd love to see that evidence that the MKB and the AVT were in Stalingrad :p

Other than the unlock system and the abomination that is Action mode, its really pure opinion that the game has become worse. Yes they supported TWI, but that doesn't entitle you to a game that fits your every need exactly.

I was saying that those weapons were HISTORICALLY INACCURATE

Oh I'm sorry for misreading that :p

About the vets, well, they were entitled to what TWI promised at least. Before launch, TWI used to say that the progression system was going to be purely cosmetic and all rare ulocks and stuff would be completely rare. Heroes would also be rare. There was a lot of false advertisement, which lead to a greater disappointment of the vets.

Anyways, another thread is being derailed. Shall we go back on topic?

Well I can only say that the vets that pushed for the removal of the zoom did not know what they were doing. Because they were powered by hate of the feature, instead of understanding. And with that they did harm Classic. Harmed it by the point of view of making it more unique, and realistic, but not from the point of view of making it more like RO1. Since RO1 has no appeal. That was a mistake. They did not fully remove the zoom, but well, they made a mess of it. And the same argument goes for others features. Like suppression, where Classic goes overboard with. Classic is problematic, and has very little appeal.

And what does zoom has to do with spawning on SL?

If this is going to be yet an other what's wrong about classic and how does zoom work thread, then this thread will eventually receive a nice polished padlock (without zoom feature).

What kind of suggestions are there to improve it? and why do you keep thinking this will affect you, just play on the realism servers that don't turn it off, simple.

Is forum search not working on your side? Here's an example:
http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=80946

The point is that the feature is fine and useful, but it needs more tweaking. Allowing turning it off on Realism will effectively stifle it, and kill all the potential it has (not to mention the fascinating and captivating Treadmill mini-game most players will be subjected to so).

Also the suggestion to 'play on realism servers that don't turn it off' is both stupid and insulting. If there were a huge following for this game with dozens of full-size servers loaded with players, it would have been valid. There isn't one, and it's not, and your suggestion sounds like 'up yours, don't play the game'.

it seems there are people afraid that lots of others will flock to servers that have this turned off and are worried they'll be alone. is that a problem? that lots of people would be happier and you'd need to suck it up and play it their way?

Wrong. There are hordes people who won't care or will not immediately notice that the change is intentional. The servers will continue as they are mostly, barring people who like comfortable play effectively from the game.

------------------------

Anyhow, AtheistIII's suggestion is a perfect compromise: make the servers that do it Custom, without tainting Realism.

So, in some cases it appears the answer to your question is YES :p
