I was thinking more along the lines of if you twirl around too fast, your gun will smack into the wall and you'll be slowed down.

That's the interesting question right there, how is that implimented?

In Vietcong for instance, weapon colission had no effect on you looking around, if the gun came too clouse to an object it would just "retract" (for lack of a better word), which ment you coulden't shoot it when it was coliding, but you could look around just fine, with no slowdown.

In the Infiltration mod however (an UT mod), the weapon collision would stop you from turning your viewpoint, dead in it's tracks, and you had to manouver the gun around the object, by looking up or down whilst turning around, to clear the object, no nothing prevented you from shooting the gun.

Clearly there's several ways weapon colission can be handled, all of them with their own strong and weak points, so it'd be interesting to know which direction TWI has taken it..

Though that assumes the feature was fully implimented in the current build, it might not be at this time, in which case it might well be covered under the NDA.

TWBJimMiller did you get a chance to shoot the bolts? How did they compare to the ones in RO1?

Did the weapon collision feature apply to long guns as well?

The bolts felt just as good as RO, though, I did not spend to much time with them after I found the AVT. As far as I can remember the collision feature applied to all the weapons.

This is kinda silly of me, but where you able to attach the bayonet by yourself, have anyone even played with the k98, this is something i realy want to know.

i love ro for that it always gives me such an awesome feeling when i am pinned down to attach my bayonett and yeah run into the next bullet without doing any damage(mostly ^w^) but yeah i want that feature again!

koschi

Never had the need to attach the bayo, sorry, I was playing at longer ranges.

I'm also specially curious about the weapon collision thingy, I want to know everything about it (like how it works together with resting etc).

Everything was smooth. You didn't feel like there was a mechanism forcing you to do anything that was unnatural. How the weapon interacted became second nature very quickly because of how seamless things were implemented.

Noob :p

Great write up guys! Thanks. Its exhilarating to see both a non-RO lover (Sam) and two RO-enthusiasts all hailing the game and game-play. The wait has now become excruciating.

the best way to do it in my opinion. I dont know how i would react to it though. I think it was in america's army and it made the online experience better.

Sorry guys I've had a long hard week of work... but back to what is great, HoS...

My favorite weapon was the SVT, although the AVT was fun, is still had the RO:OST super kick, you had better brace it. The SVT, had a moderate kick, very controllable. Smooth and accurate shooting. In RO, as opposed to HoS, I prefer the bolts, they just are more accurate and have less kick. But with the increased range of fighting in HoS and, I would guess, better hit detection, the recoil has been reduced to a more realistic amount, and now the SVT shines in my mind.

I only played Allies against real people, and used all the weapons I could get a hold of, the PPsH is no longer out of control, but does lose effectiveness quickly with range. Sniping with an adjustable scope was very fun. I liked the DP28, but struggled to find a good spot to use it. Probably due to a lack of familiarity with the maps.

The few times I can recall where I should have been bouncing my weapon off a wall, I can't remember it being bothersome, so the collision system must be good enough to not be annoying.

As for drawbacks in the game, the only things I really ran into are probably from the game being in a late alpha stage. I couldn't take "cover" at a tank wreck, but using the old crouch move worked fine. A couple boxes I thought I should have been able to climb to get a roof, some stuff like that.

The change in tank control is great, being able to single player a tank and drive it while in any position is awesome. The reduction of the 1 shot wonder kills, makes me sad, but only because I am fairly decent at them . It took a bit to get used to aiming the turret via the mouse, but once you get it, it seemed very natural. I didn't get a long time in the tanks, it was right at the end of the day, and unfortunately I crashed out for a few minutes. But it was entirely frutrating and exhilirating to get my transmission shot up and realise I could outrun my tank.

I'll try to drop some thoughts on the maps this weekend, here or in our TWB* Forums.

I would just like to apologize for repeatedly killing our community guests and members of the press. My intention was solely to help familiarize them with the harsh realities of the fighting in Stalingrad so they could formulate accurate reviews. Rest assured, I took no pleasure in any of it.

Wait, that didn't come out right. What I meant to say is that I regret nothing! :IS2:

Thanks for sharing! I'm really interested in the tanking aspect, and will be sorry to see those single shot kills go too. Nothing like getting a deflection shot right at the ammo box... If it's not under NDA, do they have the T-34 working sort of yet?

Really looking forward to this game!

Wait a minute, you SHOULD be ashamed because that time spent killing innocent RO players could have been spent making a Leningrad remake! SHAME SHAME.

i saw a kar 98 for $300 but i bought an ak47 instead. do they have most of the firearms thats in the game?

Yeah, they have most of the guns. If they don't own them, they at least tried them out at the firing range and to record the authentic sounds (though the semi automatic anti-tank rifle, the PTRS, wasn't working that day). Dunno about the really rare ones, like AVTs and MKB42.

I hear Ramm drives to work in an :IS2:
