It looks like they are at least 4-6 months away from release tough. Maybe June would be my guess. Many things not finished, but I can wait. Not a problem. I would rather see it well polished than rushed. :D

The interviewer is exactly the type of player I was talking about in my "HS FPS Gamer here, a few suggestions" thread. Although, it's good to hear him say RO2 it sucked him into the game, gives me hope for all my friends out there. It really comes down to a non-team type of game for many.

Mmmm well that's not for me or any of the TWB guys to say as it's TWI's call...But it will be well worth the wait..And that's the point, as you say "You would rather see it well polished than rushed." :D

Ah yes, Waiting for the finished product is always better in the long run. Just look around the FPS PC Online Community and you'll quickly understand why its best to be patient. After all, we have a great game in RO to play while we wait.

Screeners, clips and regular update info is all we need to keep the excitement going. :IS2:

Sorry for not dropping a note sooner. This was posted on my way home on our TWB* forums. I have a longer post waiting to go up, I just don't want to violate the NDA we signed...

Dropping note in from my laptop on my way home, so it will probably have spelling errors and will not be nearly as thorough as I will post; as I am hungry, and in a restaurant. That said... I have met my new mistress, and she is a thing of beauty to behold...

I think the best, short description I can give, is we had lunch before starting to play, by the time I even thought to check my watch it was 5:30 PM. And I didn't care.

Picture in your minds eye the things about the Original RO that you didn't like. Okay, now forget them. Then picture what you don't like about Black Ops or Medal of Honor -- delete them too.

The game is simply sublime, and my lunch is getting cold. So I need to go. I'll be home and online this evening, probably. Definitely online tomorrow afternoon, and drop a longer post with a real review, and be up on our TS to chat with any who care.

One last thing, THIS GAME IS AWESOME!

As I gather more thoughts I'll add to the posts...

Jim Miller and I had the opportunity, as you all know, to play test the new Red Orchestra game, Heroes of Stalingrad. Unfortunately Jim is a bit camera shy so all you can see in the photos is the back of his head. The visit with Tripwire went great our visit coincided with a visit from Slashandbash and Georgi, a reporter from a Russian gaming magazine.

In any case I know you all want to know my thoughts on the game. As I put in an earlier post, It is everything the Red Orchestra Ostfront (RO) wanted improved without taking away from the

The recon plane, only works while the commander is at the radio, and only sees people visible to the plane. There is about a 5 second delay in the image getting to the foot soldiers, so it is not real time info.

We didn't use it while playing, so I didn't get to see it except from a demo by Ramm-Jaeger.

On a similar subject, the periphery action indicators only show you players you would see in your normal real life field of view (about 180 degrees). I know it was working -- I saw it with Ramm_Jaeger driving the map, but I got so wrapped up in the game, I never noticed it in play. I suspect in time that will change. Might of helped if I did...

I wish we had used the command system more in the play test, but I can't guarantee I would have been following the orders. It is easy to use, you cycle to the group you want, click on you mouse, pick the order and tehn spot where it goes on the map. Souunds confusing, but only took about two tries to master. Now yo can order your riflemen to provide suppressing fire, and they gain "skill points" for following the order. Nice for us plunkers -- and imaging the experience points for an MG...

I make it sound like a tough game, but by the third map or so, I was generally in the upper half of scores, sometimes top of the table. And for those of you who play with me, upper-middle is my normal location. So for the seasoned players, it is an easy pick up and just a vast improvement. Let's hope we draw in a bunch of new players to "share the love" with.

I'm sure the Russian reporter will release something in next month's top Russian gaming magazine.
Poor bugger - after drinking again last night (typical unfair Russian stamina), he has to fly to a Take 2 event in Vegas today, then back to Moscow (via New York) Tuesday/Wednesday. His deadline for about 4 articles is on Thursday... guess he won't be sleeping much. And the magazine is Igromania - has a huge circulation in Russia.

Live aerial recon can just be an indication of movement and fire, IFF being impossible within a 5 second interval (maybe it is possible to ID a tank on a clear day, but not infantry). I can accept a radio message that says "infantry moving in sector A". It is down to the CO to decide if that is a friendly/foe.

The message shall not travel down to foot soldiers who dont have radio access. Remember German tanks carry mobile radios as well, so infantry can stay close to them to get feedback from the plane.

In addition to that German tanks should communicate their respective positions with one another (automatic), share target info (input by player) and be able to call artillery. Russian tanks should not have these abilities, but they should be more numerous. I'd say 1:1.5 ratio.

Yep that is how it works in the real world, but this is a video game. As we've said before, we make infantry and tank combat very realistic. But other systems surrounding that like artillery and recon we have to abstract it a bit to make it fit in the the time scales of a round, and to make sure it is fun. This recon thing has kind of been beat to death. No it is not uber-realistic, but it is generalized enough to feel realistic, still be fun, and it is NOTHING like COD UAVs.

Besides, everyone instantly forgives the long wait on release day.
