Hi all,

Is there any way to export a model - say, for instance, an oil barrel - from one of the RO Static Mesh packages to an outside application like Maya? I can't seem to find an Export option under File in the Static Mesh browser, like there is in the Texture brower.

I'm just getting started with modelling and I want to take a look a some of the RO stuff as examples, maybe change a few things, and then re-import to a myLevel package.

Can it be done? And if so, how? How will any textures be affected?

just a moment, let me open up the RO editor...

good question. I know you could with the UT Package tool, but that don't support RO...

Take the static mesh. Plop it down in a new map. Go to File > Export, and save it out as an .obj file. An .obj file should load up in Maya and 3DSMax and probably a few other applications. To do multiple objects simply select all the meshes you want, then hit F4 (properties menu) > Convert > ToStaticMesh > save it to myLevel. Then start a new map, and stick your newly made static mesh down and export it out as an .obj.

Hope that explains it. :)

Gup,

I must be either dense or too big a n00b at this (or both) because I can't get this to work. I just don't follow...

I managed to make a .obj file, but it appears to have made the whole map into this file. And moreover, Maya says that it can't read the file type (.obj).

Where have I gone wrong?

Surely there is an easy way to "extract" a model from the packages? like an .ASE file?

Errr, do you have Maya PLE or Maya, and what version? If you have PLE then I believe you need UT2K4 to export meshes properly, which is a huge pain even then. You can only convert something from ROEd into .obj format in order to get it to work in Maya. However, once you get the .obj into Maya you can safely save it as .ASE and then import it into ROEd without any problems. Also you need the actorX plugin to get the mesh back into ROEd. Hope that helps.

*crosses fingers that Shurek doesn't have Maya PLE*

I have never been able to get the method that guppy describes to work. I would suggest this: in a map, select the mesh you want and left click>covert to brush. Then under the brush menu export the brush as an .obj file. It will need some cleaning up once imported into a 3d program (welding verteces and flipping faces and the like) but it works for me.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen!

Guppy: doh! Yes, I do have the Maya PLE. Guess I'm out of luck :(

FPH: I'll try this method. Sounds like I still need to get a 3D app that will let open an .obj file though.
