We shouldn't play Red Orchestra because the Russians and Germans in real life were evil, we should only play as American and British against faceless enemies.

I'm sure there has been at least one person who has played Red Orchestra and said, "This game sucks, you can only play as fascists or communists." I hate when people infuse ideologies with things that don't need them.

I HATE POLITICAL CORRECTNESS!

@husbert, what's "rs"?

I hope they make a game where you get to play as Hitler and make stupid strategic decisions that lose you the war just to piss these people off.

Bah, the press has been bashing on video games for forever... who cares. It's called FREEDOM OF SPEECH and they can't do anything about it.

Rising Storm, probably ;)

I shudder at the thought of the propaganda videos that will soon show up on youtube with that insufferable shrieking islamic religious music in the background as virtual infidels are mauled by the Opposing Forces...

I know it is an unpopular opinion, but I think game developers should hold off on making games that directly portray a real conflict until it is over. Battlefield and COD are a bit different than MOH in this regard.

I went to the trouble of registering on their site to post this:

I was pretty proud of myself, thought I was quite eloquent ;):

"Hey Mr. Pegoraro, ever heard of freedom of speech?

And guess what, you don't HAVE to play on the side of the Taliban, it's an OPTION. So can play the role of the righteous, pure, angelic American invaders to your heart's delight.

And to your comment about the upcoming Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad... are you so naive as to think that only Stalin and Hitler's armies committed atrocities? As someone who has been obsessed with learning about WW2 since the age of about 5, I can assure you that American troops shot plenty of POWs out of hand. Not as many as the Germans and Soviets perhaps... but at what point do you "draw the line"? At what point is one side "too evil" to play?

Oh and did I mention this is a GAME????

Anyways, EA are cowards for backing down, but then again, COD is a terrible series so I won't be buying it anyways. But you bashing on Red Orchestra, now that got me ticked off. Get off your politically correct high horse please!!!"

(after I realized this was Medal of Honor, not COD, but still they're both terrible IMO)

Surely you would prefer such videos over those displaying various vehicles being hit by IEDs to the same theme? And those aren't exactly uncommon as it is.

I have to wonder why it is not okay to portray reality when it is already all around us.

@ Rob Pegoraro: you're an idiot :p (but thanks for the free press)

the whole Taliban thing is just rediculous if you ask me......it's a war, there are two opposing sides in that war, so in order to play multiplayer one side has to be the "bad guys". like changing the name from "Taliban" to "Opposing Force" is really going to do anything.....anyone who knows the slightest bit of facts regarding the wars in Afghanistan will know that the "opposing force" is the taliban. what's next, we're going to label the Japanese in RS the "opposing force" because some WWII vets are offended that players can play as the "Japs"?

i think it was kinda interesting though how he refers to the "worst of the world" and considers RO's two playable sides as "bad guys".......at least he made a good point about Stalin. so it seems to me like this guy thinks it's ok to have a game where the "bad guys" are playing the "bad guys" but whenever the "good guys" (Americans....) get involved, then it's taboo.

another typical american that forgets about Japanese internment camps, the enslavement of Africans, oh and the the genocide of the American Indian population under the guise of manifest destiny.....how i hate our education system :(

it's a video game based on history.....deal with it.

Maybe it is because I have friends that are serving, but I just find it disrespectful. People are still dying in Afghanistan, and to reduce their efforts to a video game just doesn't sit well with me. (not that changing the name from 'Taliban' makes much difference) When the war becomes historical record, go for it.

I'm also not super excited at the idea of the little punk muslim Osamawannabes getting to exorcise their demons by killing Americans as the Taliban.

As has been mentioned, this is, of course, a free speech issue and EA are free to do whatever they like - which includes responding to the reservations of service members and their families.
