Tripwire & 1C Company...too friendly to my taste...DRM Hell in it's way ?

I'm concerned with ONE thing about RO2HOS.

It seems that Tripwire and 1C Company are getting too friendly to my taste about RO2HOS.
I'm afraid that retail DVD will be distributed by that company.

My problem with 1C Company is that they are a "bit" over the top about DRM...even for games that are Steam exclusive like RO2HOS they like to had extra DRM measures that are very restrictive ! One of the most recent examples is IL-2SCoD !!!

I know that i can buy directly from Steam but i prefer always to have the DVD to make a faster install of main files and let Steam make the updates only...besides...i like the boxes :p

So, does anyone know if besides Steam there will be extra DRM in this game ?

TIA

Although I cannot answer your question. I would still like to point out that the first part of the post (including the title) is very confusing.

I think the whole DRM thing was Ubisoft's idea. And 1C only made Il2CoD while Ubisoft published it and included their DRM with it.

In 2 words: Ubisoft sucks.
I'm not buying any of their games because of the DRM. It's damaging the people who actually buy their games. Even if the game is only single player, like, Assassins Creed 2. People must always have an internet connection to play it. And if there's a problem with the internet.. *CRASH* no more gaming.

Anyway, as far as I know, the only known DRM for HoS will be Steam.

Well post was a bit confusing because English is not my natural language :D

Yeah, Ubisoft sucks ...but they couldn't prevent me to play my 100% legit copy of AC2 offline :p  :D

I hope you are right Schnitzel.

I draw the line when a game uses a 3rd party app to install, not STEAM, I love steam. I am talking about SecuROM, TAGES, STARFORCE, and all that crap. They have limited machine activations and install in very hidden folders that stay there even after they claim to be uninstalled.

It's a sad day when it comes to people who bought a legit copy of a game and end up having to download a crack for their purchase, just to play it offline.

Ubisoft is killing pc gaming.

TWI is indie, they sell their game on steam. No big publisher like EA, ubi, or 1C lords over their decisions.

TWI is more "using" 1c to sell the boxed version IIRC.
I could be wrong but that was my understanding.

EDIT: Yeah, after a quick wiki, TWI is a LLC, and is privately owned. And their listed first in the publishers of HOS. No DRM worries.

That's exactly what i done with AC2...but i have a better one for you about UbiStupid...

Some time ago a bought a 100% legit copy of a old game...Silent hunter 3.
I bought it because i knew that i would be out of luck with silent hunter 5 (no good enough crack yet to allow me to play offline).

Now...this *100% LEGIT* copy of Silent Hunter 3 installed nicely without need of any crack...it was a budget copy that comes without paper manual....i decided to check if the disk was protected anyway....and i discovered a funny thing....

No matter is a 100% legit copy...the disk included pre-installed in it...a CRACK from a famous cracker to allow it to play

The disk didn't need any patcvh either to be the most recent....

So what i got here a 100% legit disk in wich UbiStupid installed a crack to make disk cheaper and to not need their auth server still support this old game...i wonder if the cracker can sue UbiStupid ?

Thats amazing!

And then big publishers turn around and get all indignant over copyrights and pirating after they just utilized the software created to pirate their game. How stupid can they be.

All it does is make everything worse for people who actually buy their games.

It's all forgiven anyway.
It was confusing because the last bit of the post was perfectly clear;)

Love the irony but hate the mechanism of DRM's.
Past few years I have had 4 games not working, while a pirated version worked like a charm:p

There is only steamworks. We fund our own development and publish ourselves. 1c is our publishing partner (On RO 2) for Europe and we have had a great relationship with them.

Besides, 1C isn't the worst pub to be in bed with. They actually fund and make some great wargames that big names wouldn't touch.

Pure and simple Steamworks or Steamworks+CEG as in CoD BLOPS ?

I know that BLOPS is a console port but then again also was CoDMW2 that played flawless and both games based in same code and engine so i wonder if CEG had something to do with the BLOPS problems....

I believe that RO2HOS doesn't use Steamworks+CEG because that ROS2HOS uses PB and i have even more doubts about CEG working OK with PB.

No-one decides on the DRM solution except us. We've known 1C for years - and were drinking vodka with them last night. Good people, with their heads screwed on and NOT up their asses about DRM.

Chill on the DRM panic - chill on everything - this is a nice summer - go out and have fun. When you're tired from all of the running around, August 30 hits. You'll get a 10k beta a couple weeks before that if you can't wait.

We have a solid track record to go by - when RO officially came out it was a beautiful thing - and it progressively got better. RO2 will be the same. *at 43 seconds listen to the wisdom.
