Ive opened the ports for KF, and replaced the masterservers2 file with the one provided and im still timing out after a few moments of being in the server. I thought it was fixed the other night when i opened the ports, i was able to play a few rounds then quit.

Im with BT broadband (need to throw that in there) and using their utterly KING TIGER wannabe Bt Homehub 2.0. Its utter gash and causing nothing but problems. I also time out in Bad company 2 (up until i opened the ports) and also some source mods.

Any other ideas how i can get my game to stop timing out? Any other BT 'Customers' have similar issues?

Cheers

Did you make the replaced file read-only? Might want to try also replacing the masterservers.vdf file, though I think that is obsolete now. You can try the workarounds, which all do work: connect 60 seconds or later after refreshing the server list, add servers to favourites and join from there instead of clicking on internet, or when it happens open the console with ` or ' and type reconnect - as long as you stay on the same server, once it reloads it won't happen again.

From my own extensive testing, replacing the masterserver2.vdf file should work.

Yeah i made sure it was read only. These work arounds could work, but im getting problems with these other games and want to put my finger on whats wrong.

Im planning on switching back to my old Netgear router in the morning, ill see how that goes.

All the source mods will have the same problem because they use the same way of connecting to the master servers. Allegedly the new version 3 home hub doesn't have this problem, but who knows what other problems it has. Unfortunately you can't telnet into the version 2 router either, so if replacing the file doesn't work you'll have to either use a workaround or use your old router.
