I understand why the audio is like it is, but I do hope at some stage after release the option is added.

So if I switched my game to localized German I would hear German while playing on the German side. But, what about while playing on the Russian side? It wouldn't make any sense for the Russians to speak German as well as the Germans.

interesting....

also, so a Russian speaker would hear his Russian team speaking in Russian and the enemy Germans speaking German...ok, that makes sense. but would the Russian hear his German team speaking in Russian but with a German accent???? or is he hearing English??

That death scream is pretty epic

Anyone know if fast switch is in?? Every time i see a video he has to select his grenade or pistol outa a menu.. I just wanna press the number 1-5 and it switch to it straight away
Can't tell exactly when, but I saw he switching weapons without the menu. Pretty sure it's in.

After watching the videos again, I noticed how good the grenade blasts are. Not only the particle effects, but also the suppression and chock effects on the player. By far the best I've seen in a game. Good stuff.

It's funny how the audio discussion is a very civil one.
And people screaming "Jeez they listen to you so much, don't whine!" while it is so much more civil then the ski-mask discussion.

I do have the same concern about native language.
I speak very well dutch and english and I can understand german fairly well. So the immersion is less instead of more (this has been stated multiple times). Although kind of weird, but hearing the enemy (edit, I meant friendly here) speak english (albeit with accent) really kills the attraction I have for the eastern front.
(I mean no offense with the following statement) I am actually really fed up with english/american in games and movies. RO1 really made my day with native language. Hearing english just makes me feel like I am playing bastogne with a mosin, instead of stalingrad in winter.

I know that there are 3000 lines of text which is really impressive (my concern for autochatter disappeared completely with added (english) immersion) and I am not striving for a reverse on all this. I concur that it is a lot of work to implement.
I hope we can replace the english sound files (keep the name the same so game will not kick you out?) or any other cheap solution. That way TWI can keep finishing the game and I can feel like fighting over stalingrad and not france.

tl;dr - I know that it is a lot of work and I really appreciate the amount of sound implemented. However I would hope there will be a cheap solution of just replacing the sound files or something, so I don't feel like conquering Bastogne instead of stalingrad. I would also be fine if it stays this way, just because almost everything in the game is just pure awesomeness:cool:

It is surprisingly hard to play RO when you can't hear. Especially when someone starts shooting at you and you don't hear the gunshots or the bullet impacts
So does this mean you removed the supression bar?

So you always hear your team speaking accented English (or another language if the game is localized into your native language) and the enemy speaks German or Russian.
I seriously dont understand this. The player is playing as his country (for example Spain spanish) and the enemy speaks German or Soviet? Shoot them both?

Please show us some REAL gameplay. All we've seen from the videos is someone running around aimlessly with an SMG mowing down everything in his path without challenege. We have yet to actually see the type of unique, challenging, unforgiving gameplay that RO is all about. I don't say this just to satisfy my own desire to see RO2 gameplay, but because it seems that no videos have yet to really showcase RO2's unique gameplay, and many people who watch these videos can easily dismiss it as "just another WWII shooter".
Agreed with this. Show us gameplay with tanks as well.

The only thing I don't like is the obstructive nature of the text and icons. However, I'm sure this is with relaxed realism, so it's hard to tell what's indicative of the realism mode. I'm sure TWI will be tweaking it though. They've still got a ways to go yet.

Looking forward to release guys!

EDIT: Also, as much as I enjoyed hearing the native languages of the respective units fighting, I do have to say if there's 3000 lines of dialogue in the chatter system, hearing my allies in english would definitely help me out a lot more instead of me being confused as to what's going on.

Red Orchestra does not check where you bought the game, but rather where you are. We grab your IP from Steam and get the country code from it. I guess that's not how they handle it for those other games.

Well, in that case, I have nothing to fear about. What a luck, that I'm living in Switzerland!

Geez, I really HATE spanish spanish :s

I love spanish, but I wouldn't want to hear it while playing RO.

Maybe you can make an option though, where people can select what audio-package to download instead of fiddling with download servers and their location?
Like a checkbox for each type of language (if russian and german ARE available to the people from each respective country, why shouldnt we be able to check off other languages and simply check on Russian and German and download and play with those?) so we can choose ourselves what to use?

In this topic:

People who completely disregard the AWESOME news that there is a battlechatter system with 3000 lines of dialog to increase immersion for you guys, and instead groan and moan that it won't be good for immersion.

People who saw the gameplay like it is, and demand "Real gameplay video" Haven't we already had 3?

People who still are demanding stuff even though the game is being finalized, and what you saw was ALPHA gameplay. Also shut up about tank footage, they'll show it when they show it, be happy they showed this.

It is a dark day for Red orchestra community, its become the norm that every bit of exciting news is met with harsh criticism and ungratefulness.

If the game wasn't so awesome I'd reconsider buying it because I don't wanna play with these kinds of people. Luckily I realize that forumers make less then 10% of the player base.

John, I really hope the audio-package replacement is somewhat doable.
I speak Russian, and can understand a bit of German, so I'd really like to be able to switch to native Russian voices (having the interface in English though).

And I also wonder, if I download a Russian localization (which I really don't want to do) and play as Germany, will I hear Russian speech with German accent?

Many thanks for all the answers!!!

Although some of the posts are indeed a bit whiny, most post are mere questions or suggestions.
Nobody is saying "OMG wtf need native, I disregard all your hard work"

Nobody was saying the 3000 lines should go. If there are also 3000 lines in german, they were just suggesting options to make it an option for ppl.

Much more civil then other discussions imho
