i agree.

the only way its viable is with the fast reloading perk. even then, aa-12 is only 400 more :/

i say make t4 weapons 1,000-900 D

Make it weigh as much as the standart Pump-action shotgun and it is good to go. There is no reason why the m4 weighs that much more.

As a sidenote: The interaction between the pump- action and the semi- automatic M4 in KF1 is very good. Copy that, and everythings fine.

It definitely needs a buff and perhaps something else done to it. I do buy it but only if im a bit strapped on cash i end up using it as an investment for 1 round stepping stone then i can go straight to an AA12.

Otherwise if money is about i just go straight for AA12 + Hunting + Med Pistol combo.

As many have already said, the only viable balancing option imo is reducing its price

The 650-800 dosh range should do it justice

The simple fact that no one uses the M4 is reason enough for TWI to reevaluate this firearm and make changes so it becomes a viable weapon choice.

My first suggestion would be to simply to add +2 magtube extension

Suitable upgrades to make it a T3 weapon:

Increase 'magazine' to 8+
Increase reserve ammunition [desperately needed!]
Increase pellet power [do this for the AA12 as well plz while we're at it]

It should get the weight reduction, so it can be paired with the AA-12. Put nerfs in place to make it a side-grade instead of an straight upgrade to the Mossberg.

Amen to that. Heck, just having enormous amounts of reserve ammo would set it apart from the other shotguns, and give a reason to buy it.

Like, do you want the amazing burst damage of the AA12 but have to deal with serious ammo management issues, or do you want this semi-auto shotgun that will last you the entire wave? It'd make for a valid strategic choice.

*cough* I can't speak for the damage the M4 does, but... why on earth would they increase the damage of the most powerful weapon in the game? Everyone already complains that other T4 weapons aren't as good as the AA12, if they made it even MORE powerful nobody would play anything but support at all (or at least they'd all be carrying the AA12 off-perk, lol)

m4 should be the T2 weapon, priced and weighed accordingly. Boom stick would then take up T3 with a higher price/weight and a damage boost to compensate.
m4 is not bad per se, it's just not T3 worthy. Boom stick as it exists fits a T2 weapon pretty well, but we all know from KF1 how fun and useful it was as a higher-end weapon.

Another alternative would be to transfer some mechanics over from the HSG-1. Giving it a tight spread vs wide spread option could give it the functionality it's lacking.
Simply adding a bit of damage and ammo capacity won't encourage people from not passing it over or using the cheaper pump instead. It NEEDS to bring something unique to the table as or swap tier positions so it isn't competing with the AA12 (A souped up Boom Stick would do this better).

What if it was given one of those duckbill spreaders like was used on the Ithaca M37? The M4's grouping is sometimes too tight at close range such that when the Zeds spread out into a wall, you're forced to inefficiently spread buckshot between them. If it was given a horizontal spread, you could decapitate Zeds that had spread out. It would naturally balance it by having fewer single-target hits.

Closer than you would know.

That actually may make m4 viable.

I can see only 3 viable ways to fix the m4:

1) Make it direct upgrade from Pump by making it's clip 8 or perhaps 10
2) Make it a cheaper aa-12 substitute by increasing reserve ammo capacity to aa-12 level
3) Make it more available price-vise by decreasing price to 800-900

How about this...

Make the M4 a T2 shotgun with a slight weight reduction, also price it the same as T2 Double-Barrel, and introduce a proper T3 shotgun that actually performs to replace it.

This would make the M4 an alternate upgrade (side-grade) to the "Boomstick" and allow more variety in playing styles.

Also, replacing the "birdshot" of the M4 with a rifled, or even wax slug would make a major difference in terms of damage output. Slug only makes one hole but boy is it big... Basically that would transform the M4 into a different beast altogether.

I rather see the m4 be tier 2 with its weight decreased and the hunting be tier 3 with its weight increased and bring back the hunting shotgun to its old former glory making it an option over the AA12.

Reposting this from yesterday's M4 thread.

The biggest issue I have with it, is that right now it just doesn't really have a place in the game. It's really not that much better than the free Pump Shotgun (you could argue that it's worse!) that you spawn with, and yet costs

It might be worth noting that the military version of this shotgun has a 7+1 shell capacity. Apparently the civilian model is what's in KF2.

I think it would be cool if it had two separate ammo pools that you could switch between with the alt fire. Default would be normal shells and the alt would be either a slug or a mini grenade.

The funny thing is, it's literally just a tube extension for the M4. My brother has seen some competition shooting videos on youtube where guys have had tubes almost twice as long as the barrel.

What would be cool would be if we had an M2 with an xrail.
