Yep, after many many many years of speculation, it's true: Thief 4 is being developed.

Thief is my favourite singleplayer series ever. 'The Dark Project', the first Thief, was quite innovative. Stealth using the first person perspective hadn't been done yet very often at that time. The sequel, 'The Metal Age' was great as well. The great thing about Thief is that it had, and still has, a very active community which produced a lot of good fan missions or 'FMs' for both Thief 1 & 2. They were a lot of fun to play, and definitely increased replay-value. Some of them were even better than the stock missions. 'Thief: Deadly Shadows' was good as well, although it just wasn't the same (Ion Storm developed it instead of Looking Glass Studios).

Anyway... for me, Thief had it all; a great storyline and setting, dark atmosphere, interesting tools and weapons, unusual cutscenes, but most of all: a very cool anti-hero. Garrett the master thief - a quiet, cynical loner, roughin' it in The City every night, stealing from the rich, and giving to himself.

I love it so much. :D Hopefully, Thief 4 will be just as good as the first two. Although I wonder what the story will be, because Thief 3 pretty much ended the story.

I loved Thief 1 and 2, but I quite liked Thief 3 too. The stealth gameplay was almost unchanged and the atmosphere was there as well.
The end of Thief 3 seemed like a rather closed ending though (very badass too, with the unexpected change of music when the revelation hits you), so I'm curious how they are going to go on from there.

I played Thief 3 a bit once and while combat was kinda awkward I liked the style and atmosphere, so I guess I'm looking forward to this as well! Really like WELL DONE stealth action games.

No, stealth action is Splinter Cell. Thief is a stealth game, period.

Yeah sorry you're right. Did they screw up the combat on purpose though, so that people would player stealthier instead? (Talking about Thief 3)

They only took away the sword so people wouldn't abuse it. Other than that the combat is pretty much identical. I liked the sword but tbh I never really missed it when playing Thief 3. The dagger can still stealth-kill like the sword could. You just can't attack enemies head-on anymore. Not that bad a change, considering the nature of the game.
I dare say that if Thief 1 and 2 had had a dagger and Thief 3 would have introduced a sword, people would be complaining how they made it a hack'n'slash instead of a stealth game now!

It'll certainly be interesting, there are so many ways this could be awesome, and so many ways it could be horrible.

1 and 2 was GREAT !!!!
but 3... sucked
3 is unfairly bashed.

Compared to 1 and 2 it was perhaps lacking (mission size etc.) but compared to most games on the market it KICKED ***.

The atmosphere on several of the TDS missions was just as good as the original thiefs.

I felt like bumping this cause well... this series deserves it.

I agree, Deadly Shadows was still a great game. If only Oblivion had something like the Pavelock Prison level for when getting arrested.
