Got the Fire & Sword sale pack on Steam, and it's been eating up most of my game time since. Found my calling as a halberd wielding infantryman in plate, usually with a one-handed sword for close encounters and a firearm for shooting those who attempt to flee. Only problem with this game is that grenades get super overpowered on servers that spawn you with a lot of gold. People bring four grenades, spam them, and manage to get a good amount of kills.

Also tried Section 8 and Aliens vs. Predator, both of which are so terrible I actually want my money back... and I paid about $10 total for both. Section 8 basically fails at doing what C&C Renegade multiplayer accomplished years ago, and AvP managed to make movement so clunky and context-dependent that you feel more like a cripple than a xenomorph killing machine. Oh, and you can "block" in melee. As a human. Monolith did it right with Aliens vs. Predator 2 - movement was effortless and didn't depend on your use button, and if the alien players got within arms reach of you, you had a 95% chance of being instantly decapitated.

Anno Domini 1257 mod for Warband.

Spoiler!

Currently the Scots are getting their collective butts kicked by the Gaelic Kingdoms and England. And Serbia was recently wiped out by the HRE.

Thinking about ditching the Scots and taking a boat over to do work for the HRE or Teutonic Order.

Oh man. Right now, gaming is starting to be like work...

What am I playing right now:

The Witcher 2
GTA IV (to shorten the wait for LA Noire, which is out tomorrow here)

And here's why gaming feels like work: I ought to finish some games, so I can move to the successors, as I am slightly OCD about playing parts 2 without having finished part 1. And with finished, I mean throughly explored, including all sidequests. To add insult to injury, Savegame imports don't really lighten that load. So here's the "completing in progress" list:

The Witcher: I have played through it, but on my old PC. Now I need a new complete savegame, but I don't want to download one. I'm in the second half of act 3, so it's about two thirds done. Couldn't resist playing part 2 though.

Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate: I'm at the landsmeet, so the end is nigh. Just Awakening and three DLC adventures to go before I can finally start with DA 2. Which would still be wrapped in plastic if I hadn't have to register it, to cause the next point in the list (and I preordered the signature edition, too...)

Mass Effect: Done two of the three inital story quests (and the free DLC), so I guess it's halfway done. Don't bother with buyable DLC though. After that, I can finally start ME 2 (which Bioware gifted to me for buying DA2)

On a sidenote: Don't know what it is, but it's quite rampant with the "new" bioware games, starting with NWN 2, but somehow I lose interest in those games quite quickly. I have started DA:O, ME1 and NWN 2-3 times each, every time getting a little farther, just to ultimately stop playing somewhere in the middle of it, and not coming back...

I finished GTA IV and I can honestly say it's the worst of the GTA series, it's not bad or anything, it's a good game but after the story there isn't much to go for, you have alot of money you can't spend, there are jets in the airfield you can't enter, no gambling, no tuning cars, 90% of the map is city, no forest, mountains or small towns, no big collection of weapons, no apartments to buy, etc. The way Nico was portrayed was good though, he had feelings, not like the previous GTA games, or any other game for that matter. San Andreas was better in most ways except the storyline and the main character.
I also finished Mass Effect 2 before that and I can safely say ME 1 was better. No inventory, dumbed down rpg, less weapons, repetitive gameplay, etc.

The Elitist Prick Club
The Witcher 2.

Seriously that's it, 75% of my L4D posse decided to break their graphics cards/get married/get a job with inconvenient hours.

The Witcher 2 though...damn!

I'd say it's the best in the series game mechanics wise. Yeah it coulda had a ton more features but its a fully realized city that doesn't feel floaty and weak. That's extremely impressive alone. The story was engaging if you immersed yourself in each scene singularly but the big picture kinda didn't make sense. Niko has feelings and all he cares about is getting out of his life of crime....whilst he murders tons of people willy nilly and commits every crime in the book? Big disconnect there.

But on topic....BRINK

I took over all of Britain with the Gaelic Kingdoms in about three months. Does the world map still lag and freeze really badly? That mod is almost too big for its own good.

That's what I thought after playing it. I was also annoyed by the repetitive missions and getting constantly called by Roman for some reason. GTAIV's story is too serious and depressing.

Oh well, at least I had fun griefing in the MP. :D

I liked the serious and depressing story, more games need a more realistic storyline. I was confused who was who though, I do a mission for a guy, that guy says he knows another guy, then that guy tells me to go to another guy, then I work for the mafia, then I work for irish brothers, then I work for some dying old man, then I work for the police. Then I work for a boss, then I work for his boss, then I work for a completely different guy that has nothing to do with those others but looks like the first one. Good thing it didn't really matter who they were.

The story was good. But that's all there was. Half of GTA:SA was the joy not only cruising around, but cruising around and finding stuff that interested you. We made the first 3 days of game a challenge of exhaustively mapping all the weapon and item spawn points on the first island.

In GTA4, there was no point to that, because there was nothing out there. I never had trouble with money, ever, never had trouble with ammo, and generally the joy of making the city yours ala Tommy Vircetti or CJ wasn't to be found anywhere. It's the closest I think I've ever gotten to playing a video game that is like a movie, and I enjoyed the characters. It just wasn't enough to drive me past my 4th day of playing, or to bring me back to it. I don't care what happens to Niko or Roman or any of those guys in the end. I just know what once I had a suit and an M16, I knew the game was over. And that made me sad.

I hope Rockstar now takes their production quality and combines it with the elements that kept the other GTAs playable once you were done/sick of the story. Gravitas is nice. It doesn't mean your game has be devoid of anything game-like.
