I really really carefully putted it back down :D

always liked reproductions, especialy for rarer weapons like the one above.

Looks really awesome. Too bad it never could be imported to the USA. I imagine they cost like 5,000$ or more.

with 4000 joules of muzzle power, yeah you will get that recoil :D

The guns design doesn't help either. Side mounted magazines severly unbalance the weapon increasing the effects of the recoil.
I've held a FG42 once, the thing was large as hell and weighed quite a bit. I then realized why it wasn't so widespread used as other German weapons but it's engineering helped for the development of the MKb and the StG, and by chain of effect, the Kalashnikova rifles and the H&K G series rifles (with the glorious G3 being the best ever :IS2:).

Yet FG42's mechanism is based upon the Lewis gun :D

The design of the FG42 actually helps keep the recoil down to a managable level as compared to other full powered battle rifles. Try firing full auto with an M14 and you'll experience worse recoil.

The FG42 was designed with an inline stock, pistol grip and sophisticated muzzle brake, all of which helped reduce the recoil and allow the shooter a lot more control. However it still fires a very powerful full powered rifle round, and at a very high rate of fire, so the gun will naturally be a handful on full automatic nomatter how well the stock or muzzle brake is designed.

The G3 wasn't bad, but the blowback action gave it high recoil. The two small rollers would have to replaced multiple times during the weapons service life.

Hmm... recoil should be the same as with a gas or recoil operated mechanism, and in my experience the G3 does not recoil any more than other battlerifles, infact I find it to be one of the more controllable ones.

Oh, that reminds me, that company also makes Stg44, mp40, G-43 and Kar98 copies (though looking at their website now, they only have mp40, fg42 and stg44 anymore, shame), for those who like that.

Shame I did not buy the gun-mag with the review of the FG-42 though. Funny thing, the info you gain from the history books and websites on the FG-42 always state how crappy and haphazard that thing is and never mention that buffered stock, when in truth it looks actually really solid and nice.
