Lets see.
I paid for pre release in RO2 and was not impressed(but I knew the risk when I paid for something i hadn't seen). In fact am still not impressed but am hoping the modders will rescue it for me.I am now expected(if I want to play RS) to pay again for a mod for RO2.

Yet if I had waited (and not supported TWI with my money at the start) then I could have paid once for RS and got the multiplayer game of RO2 for free.

Can a dev please explain to me how I am not being shafted here?

Am I the only one who doesn't get this view?

The primary...well, the only purpose of games is to provide fun. I bet you have had splendid experiences with this game. Are you telling me that you would rather erase all those and take away all the fun you had from the game's release and start anew by buying the now discounted game, only to save a few lousy bucks?

Btw, I completely agree with Yoshi's view, it was also mine all along.

No you're not the only one.

I hate these "I paid for RO2, now I am supposed to pay for RS??+?+" comments. This really grinds my gears. Don't buy it then if it's so damn hard

I paid a whopping $9.50 cents for RO2.

That's the price of a fast-food meal, my friends.

I would have paid $100 for this game.

I am buying the expansion, full price.

Free for people with the inb4 reset achievement

Otherwise I don't see myself getting it. It took months for RO2 to be playable for me. Months. By then the game was dead. Perhaps those of us who bought the game early (or pre-ordered before release) can get it for free for our troubles.

Troubles? Sitting around for a couple months for a game to be fixed is not any trouble. Sure it's disapointing but it's definitely more troubling for TWI than us. Even if we did pay a semi-hefty amount for the game. At least the game is amazing now and it's not dead.

I'll pay for it full price as long as it's not over $20

Is money so important to you?
If the game is good and provides many hours of fun, I don't give a damn how much it costs cause I'd buy it anyway.

Just an observation here..

I am by no means a rich man but, if I get a deal in which I feel I have been ripped off for, say, $30, I do not think I would still be moaning about it a year later.

It's obviously not about the $30, its about the emotional investment.

For the RO hardcore, of which I used to class myself as a member (along with hundreds of others who were still playing RO up until release of RO2), RO wasn't just a game, it was THE game. It satisfied an itch that no other FPS was really satisfying at the time, nor has satisfied since. A steep learning curve, an intense immersiveness, simple but well balanced game mechanics that lead to great tactical play, a fine balance between realism and playability, a slow and methodical pace that occasionally became frantically exciting.

I, like many others, looked forward to RO2 with great anticipation. I followed it all through the development cycle (back when it was just game 2), I played RO:OST for years, I pre-ordered RO2 DDE (and got an extremely rushed beta btw).

I was on the forums when the RO faithful were concerned about some of the concessions being made to a casual audience (the unlocks, the bandages, the radar, the progression, the speed). We were told a true RO experience would still be available, and that the casual aspects would be just a lure to a wider audience. Instead nearly every facet of the game was turned down to be more accessible and many realism elements were lost entirely (not to mention all the glitches and botched jobs).

I remember Wilson and Ramm saying things along the line of "Come on guys, have some faith in us, we're not going to sacrifice what makes RO great just by making the game more accessible, wait till you play the game before complaining!"

You can't milk on that kind of public reputation and then expect no hard feelings when promises people pre-ordered on where not delivered. They weren't listening to concerns before launch, and they weren't listening after.

TWI only started to listen at all when it became clear that their lunge for the casual market had backfired tremendously and their only remaining customers were the old base. Then we got another half hearted job with Classic mode (even at this time there was STILL efforts being made to make the game even MORE accessible to casual gamers, with the infamous crosshair incident, that TWI had joked about doing in the past).

The entire RO2 fiasco can be summed up in one phrase: If you chase two rabbits, you'll lose them both. It's the disrespect shown to loyal followers that people are bothered by, not $30. It was clear from the way the launch was handled that if RO2 had been a hit with the casual market, TWI would have been totally unconcerned that RO fans didn't get the experience they wanted and was promised.

As evidenced by how much complaining TWI did about unhappy customers, and how many complaint threads were getting locked, and how much justification they made that no, they were doing everything right and if you have a problem with the game its your fault for not realizing the game is better that way. "The customer is always wrong" seemed to be the motto for a long while. They didn't used to be like this, but became like this when it was clear the base was very unhappy and they just didn't want to deal with it.

If I was willing to pre-order the DDE, instead of just waiting till RO2 went on sale, then clearly its not about the money. I also recommended many of my friends to pre-order RO2, as I was certain it would be brilliant. I'm willing to pay for a good experience. However I've been burned by my experience with RO2 and am still not happy with the state its in, so I'm understandably hesitant to pay any more money for a similar experience. If TWI don't care what I think, that's fine, but I'll certainly never pre-order another game from them if they continue with their previous attitude.

RS has the potential to form a great RO style experience from the ashes of RO2, there are many promising signs that RS is not going to pander to the casual crowd (like Japanese aren't given ****loads of SMGs just to "balance" things).

TWI not listening to the concerns people have about RS will simply confirm what many already believe, that TWI is unwilling or incapable of listening to the concerns of their true base, and that they care more about chasing dollars today than they care about keeping followers happy tomorrow. This is the complete opposite of what made TWI so loved with RO.

With RO1, TWI delivered far more than anyone expected after purchase. With RO2, precisely the opposite is true. It really is that simple.

Meh, I got my thirty bucks out of it and then some. Everyone has to decide that for themselves.

I pre-ordered HoS, I really think people who go that far back or before the reset should get RS for free.

I certainly don't feel entitled to it, and am more then happy to pay.
That said it is always nice to receive gifts and rewards.

Well, considering the fact that RO2 came out as an unfinished product and many promises that were made for future RO2 have not been kept still, seeing that their menpower have totally shifted from RO2 to the new game and having to watch the already weak playbase split in half once the new game comes out is cruel.
Money is not important as someone said above but I feel like I need to be consoled in some way. I want to be assured that TWI has not forgotten the good old loyal fans who have trusted TW fro the beginning.

I really love the fact that RO2 and RS are going to be integrated. Having everyone that has RO2 to play RS from day of release is great, even at a limited level.
BF3 with its Premium pack and shortcuts packs are a bad way to go, it just isolates players that either can't afford all these extra's or unwilling pay more for extra content.
I have BF3, don't play much if ever now, its too much Rambo Spamming for me and I didn't buy the Premium pack, coz I think EA/DICE are taking the P***. BF in a dead game for me now.
I've had many hours of fun already with RO2, really looking forward to many more, and can't wait to see RS and all it's new gameplay features in action.

yeap Yosh confirmed ages ago that all RO2 players will get some kind of access to RS - which i think is a fantastic idea as it means theres no split in players and we can run both sets of maps without half the players being chucked off at map change

I dont think they made enough of of this feature and the post above prove some are stil unware of this

MAybe they're planning onmaking more of it on release - they should as it's a selling point that both games/mod run together on the same map rotion

What do you think will happen with the players who have no interest in RS when the map changes to a RS map? They will likely leave and search for a stalingrad map. I think it will split up the game. I don't know how this can be solved.

We dont know who'll have an interest in RS it might turn out to be more popular than RO - it could be the other way around RS players leave when RO comes on

Being as both games are very close in play styles most will play both I think because even the ones who aren't keen wont have had to pay now if it was a pay to play only I would agree with you - but as its a freebie most will use it as everyone loves getting sumit for free

But the proofs in the pudding and we will not know till theres a full scale beta then we get a better idea of who and how many will play what
