Vista is ok on computer's that are fast enough...

Desktop computer, dual core 3ghz or more, 4 gigs ram, 7200rpm drive.

a laptop or a cheepy HP from futureshop of the vista days is still terrible...

True, its that win7upgrade is waaay too expensive or else I would have already done it.

Honestly, I never had any problems with Vista ... until I got Windows 7. It ran fine on my desktop, and it even runs great on my wife's laptop (which is a cheepy HP, w/Turion X2 RM70 @ 2gHz and Radeon 3200).

After using Win 7 for over a year, though ... my new job, my workstation is a Q6600 w/4 GB and a Quadro FX somethingorother ... but it's got Vista on it. And after using Win 7 ... let's just say that my computer is the only thing about my job that I hate.
