Nimsky you sure understand i didnt go " FUUUUUUUUU EMMOOO EPISODE WHERE IS THE JAPS SLAUGHTER" when i watched it right....

After having watched BoB many times ( and heck most of the war movies/series that are out there ) the presentation and tempi can be anoying after some time. I guess its more the style of hanks and speelberg that hasent evolved over the years.

And he was supposed to figure that out after you called the episode emo and complained about wanting battle how?

And another Basilone pic. Hilarious.

do i expect for there to be character development and "non-battle" drama woven into the episodes? sure i do. but for me personally, i saw no reason to waste a whole episode that was basically "soldiers go on leave to australia, soldiers drink a ton, soldiers find some chicks to bang, then back to the front". the only part that i really saw as compelling was the award ceremony and that the hereo was going to be sent back to the states to do PR instead of staying with the troops on the front lines.

if you've seen the movie Gods & Generals, this episode reminded me of the random scenes of "slowness" that were in that movie. i'm just more of an action fan than a "drama" fan that's all. so i'm looking forward to episode 4 and getting back into what really defined the war, which is, well, WAR! :D

Like I said, it IS historically correct.

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-World_War_II_baby_boomhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-World_War_II_baby_boom

Now, those babies weren't delivered by an army of storks, you see? Yes, American GIs did in fact father children when they returned to civilization, that's what hormones do sometimes... it certainly wasn't uncommon. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like action too, but there's nothing wrong with a bit of drama either.

I find that Leckie's and Basilone's characters became more interesting in this episode, it had some funny bits as well, which was nice.

@Kaner, Basilone was the original Rambo. Heck, he's even more badass than Rambo, and that says a lot. They both even hipshoot machine guns.

Basilone definitely is more badass than Rambo. Not only did he hip a WW1 era machine gun, but he did it while it burnt the flesh off of his arm....AND he used it as a melee weapon! Damn what a freaking hero.

Character development is fine by me, its obviously a necessary. Seeing some of the more emotional side of the characters, how they felt after experiencing a slice of hell and then finding themselves in a relative heavenly situation only to be sent into the thick again is fascinating - but for ****s sake paraphrase the sex scenes. I mean seriously, insinuate it happened and then on to something a bit more informative, it doesnt have to be perpetual battle and killing, but a half hour of corny sex scenes and partying can easily be hinted at in a fraction of the time they spent dragging it out. Hanks and Spielberg are way too heavy handed with the acting drama, and not in a good way. You can achieve heart rending drama in a number of ways, but these guys have such a corn dog approach that it makes it hard to watch at times. Episode 3 was largely for the women in the audience.

Yeah def all the girls we watched it with finally caught interest. And I found it absolutely hilarious that in the Leckie sex scene he did the little reach for his wang to guide it into the va j j. You never see detail like that in sex scenes and I lost it.

Exactly, the situation on the homefront is a unique one only experienced during war. It affected people all across the world even if there was no actual fighting there. Episode 3 tried to deal with the concept of finding a sweetheart abroad only to know that sooner or later they would be shipped off again, most likely to their deaths.

I almost fell asleep during that ep (3). Honestly a waste of time.

BoB did not have a single bad episide, so far its 1 bad, 1 good, 1 ok. I hope the other 7 are violent action laden awesomeness or i shall be ragequitting.

Not sure what ill ragequit but by god i promise i will.

someone also said "war is hell"......so far i've seen about 30 minutes of hell and 150 minutes of other stuff. :p

oh, the whole baby boom wiki thing.....the post-war baby boom starting in 1946 was more the direct result of the GIs coming home from the war, not so much from GIs knocking up chicks during the war. everyone was just as horny, but with no war tying up people's time, what else was there to do but make babies? :D

my problem is that there was no real drama in those scenes. it was just lust, just horny men looking for something to distract them for the reality that they were at war. to me it wasnt real love, and love produces the most drama. like example, they could have lumped the drama portion in by having one of the characters reading a letter from his sweetheart back home, perhaps even a short flashback to that night under the stars when yes, they banged each other  but at least that to me would have felt more dramatic than the strategy they took.

drama is good when it is short, sweet and mixed with the "blood and guts" scenes because the moments are rare which makes you appreciate them more. but devoting literally an entire 60 minute episode to nothing but gooshy "drama", i probably could have turned on the Oxygen channel and been more entertained :p

Part 4 just ended.

I'm not really that thrilled with this, so far.

Part of it is the whole whiny emo aspect of it, I suppose, but ... it just feels like a series of barely connected vignettes to me, too. I guess that may be due to the fact that it's taking a longer time span than BOB did, as well as multiple story lines, and putting it into the same span of episodes ... but I just feel like the story telling isn't really there.

I'll keep watching it, yeah. But ... it's still striking me as just meh.

WHY THE F*CK HAS EVERY SINGLE ACTION SHOT GOT TO BE IN A 100% DARK NIGHT!?!?

Seriously, all i could see was a few flashes, sometimes half a face and a few explosions.

It's not so much the drama itself that's putting me off. It's the Spielberg way of presenting it. It has a formula that was fresh in the 90s and now is just stale and just feels fake. I just don't feel attached at all.
