The other 80% of RO2 players dont want a "realism" mode.

I'd rather see people unlock standard gear, like bayonets or raincoats. Than have people unlock super rare stuff like the mkb or mp40-II. After a while everybody that plays will have a high level character meaning currently, people run around with more mkb's or mp40-II's than regular mp40's.

Id much rather have people running around with standard gear in the end game rather than super rare magical gear.

---
Personally I have no issues with unlocks but from a gameplay perspective HOS' implementation just doesn't work well. Currently all upgrade paths are going up i a straight line making a high level character better than a low level character. Meaning new players are completely ****ed.

It would be better in case of an upgrade system that every upgrade got a disadvantage, so that its rather that high level characters can tweak their persona better to their fitting rather than just getting better.

Even with cod you can earn a lot of perks and in the end can only use a limited amount of them at the same time. Image COD where you can use every single perk you earned at the same time, that is what HOS is like and you cannot even disable them

The updates don't just show small differences in ability to handle, but actually show quite huge differences in things such as bolting speed. A new player with a bolt is at a definite time disadvantage as a high level player with a bolt in pretty much all ways.

-----
If there was an unlock system cleverly thought out I would have been supporting it, realism is the last of my concerns but the employed unlock and update system is horrible from a gameplay perspective.

I'd rather have it that every weapon would have stats in the form of points for accuracy firing rate what not. And that simply by gaining levels you could transfer stats from one thing to the other. So in a high level you could somewhat tweak the advantages of your class to your taste.

Like chosing to have more steady aim, at the cost of stamina or something like that. Allowing people to customize their character where the amount of improvement can be balanced.

A high level player can tweak his character as a rifleman to be more focussed on perhaps long range fighting with a very steady aim, perhaps even a bit less fog no free aim in ironsight or what not at the cost of reload speed, stamina ironsight speed and perhaps no bayonet.

Where another high level player can tweak his character as a rifleman to be more focused on shorter range fighting. By increasing the stamina, ironsight speed and reload speed having a bayonet. At the cost of for instance max zoom and sway.

From a realistic point that is stilll bollocks, but at least from a gameplay perspective that just allows you to tweak your character a bit to fit your play style. Meaning a new player is not necessarily much worse than an old player in absolute sense with character, its rather just different. Where the high level player got his character just such that it fits his playing style.

Out of all fps games that I've played that had abilities to power up your character both KF as HOS make your character the most powerful after reaching a high level. In KF since its player vs ai its not a big issue, although not being able to filter a suicide server to be lvl 5+ hurts the gameplay. But in hos its player vs player, so players that are strong and at an advantage get very big advantages on top of it.

In recent years I seriously do not know any MP game that had a level up system that was less thought out and refined for gameplay than the one found in HOS. TWI promised to not have updates like in COD, what they gave us was worse from a gameplay perspective.

This kind of stuff was standard issue! There was never any question of earning the right to use a bayonet or a greatcoat. Soldiers would have been punished for NOT having it.

The only thing that should be unlockable if Tripwire really thinks that this kind of incentive is the only reason people will keep playing the game is to make the uniforms more battle-worn or something decorative.

For what I care, the super-rare weapons should be straight away banned from servers with standard settings. There are "casual" servers or something like that, no? Let them have those.

Yes it was standard issue which is exactly my point. I rather have people unlocking standard issue things. So in the end you have everybody running around with standard issue items.

I'd rather not have people unlock futuristic weaponry, and rare items. So in the end nobody walks around with standard issue things and everybody runs around with prototypes. There are more Mp40-II's and MKB's on the battlefield than mp40's or bolt action rifles. From a historic point of view that is just wrong.

---

But as I said above to me realism doesn't mean that much but gameplay does.

And currently the entire unlock system is just horrible from a gameplay perspective. As it punishes new players into a game that is already hard to get in to. I'd rather see it that older player could more like customize things more (like a bayonet making you better at short range combat, while making it more tip heavy inducing more sway) with the ability to select or unselect unlocks, making it that everything you use comes with both an advantage aswell as a disadvantage.

In its current way I'd much rather play with no unlocks at all from a gameplay perspective. Although in case you disable unlocks TWI made it such that a server is not ranked so nobody will play on it.

---

Currently there is so much wrong with HOS from the gameplay perspective, combined with all the things wrong from the realism perspective. That I seriously doubt that HOS will ever get to a state that most players of Roost can truly enjoy and see as a sequel to RO1.

I basically agree with you Zetsumei, but I do wonder if the whole hassle of HAVING an upgrade system rather than to just let all players select their loadout - with advantages and disadvantages, of course - is worth it.

Why not just let players customise a few sets of loadouts (for use on different maps, soviets/germans, or just different moods et.) from a menu, with no unlocking at all? For levelling up, that's where the cosmetic upgrades might be handed out.

Having to unlock basic standard issue equipment like bayonets, however, is out of the question. It's utter crap from both a gameplay *and* a realism perspective, without even having to go into the details.

As others, I'm not against unlocks in principle. But I am against things that make me go, "ugh, this is stupid". Like feeling like I have to "work" for standard gear, like a drum mag or a bayonette. Or not being able to detach **** like bayonettes, though it's more annoying with scopes. I don't really care about the mkb. I just don't like stupid ways to limit my freedom of playing the game/choices. That's what kept me playing RO:eek:st until basically the release of HoS.

I mostly just care about all those "ugh" design decisions.

Nobody knows what it includes. A lot of people want bayonets that can be attached during gameplay. I think that would probably be too much work, but i guess selectable unlocks are probably something that will come available at some point.

Counter-Strike 1.X had attachable silencer to M4A1 and that was like 10 years ago?

Roost had it as well, that is not the point. Attaching a bayonet requires new animations for it, and allowing weaponry to switch state. And basically changing weapon model.

Its not that it's impossible to do but, its something that likely requires quite some additional work. Personally I think being able to select whether i spawn with or without a bayonet would be sufficient for me. And that is something that can probably be realized with much more ease.

That additional work that was wasted on making stupid unlock and player progression system should be used to do attachable bayos, "auto ready" function and many other things that are more important for RO gameplay.
Well, TWI had another vacations, I hope they returned back to office, fresh and eager to fix the game.

I'm with private who, there have been many promises for HOS that weren't up hold. And atm I don't believe into things becoming ok until i can play it or at the least we obtain a clear list of what changes we can expect.

Supposedly StragoMagus had an outlining list on what those potential changes would be. Would love it if TWI shared some details even if it were simply conceptual at the moment.

Unlocks.. It doesn't make it more accessible. RO OST wasnt accessible. But it was away more accessible. The weaponsway and recoil in RO OST made it an art to be able to handle each weapon. There was no weapon that was superior to all others. It was simply a matter of being a good player and that was NOT a question of just aim and fire because the game didn't control the weapon for you. You had to learn to handle the recoil.

In RO2 newcomers are welcomed with MkB, skillpoints, and diffrent perks that you gain from playing the game. You start off with nothing. No matter how good you are, how much you learn, the others will be slighly better than you. But not only because of skill but because of the highly retarded unlocks and perks - such as the ability to throw your grenade longer. For the ones with slow computers they will end up with a rifle on the small, crowded maps, right agianst MkB's and machineguns, along with perks and skillpoints. Like all this wasnt enough it take a considerible amount of time to gain everything that all the other players got. Its a tough fight for newcomers. I also believe its a short fight hence the huge player drop after the release.

Not only that, but you also die extremely easy because there is no autohealing or any other forgiving features. It's a mix between half-hardcore madness with an attempt to make it more 'other' games. The result is game that creates a whole new niche audience. A mix between popcorn twitchshooter fans and a few hardcore players.

This game will never become what TWI wanted RO2 to be. The Relaxed Realism mode is as broken as it can be. Battlefield 3 just does this so much better. Not just because of the cash they got but because of the design decisions. The Hardcore mode is broken. The game mechanics are broken. I hope TWI reads this and realize that the smartest - and easiest thing to do - would be to give the majority of people who are active here (e.i the majority of people who play the game and will continue to do so) a proper Hardcore mode. Leave the other mode as it is if some people want to have it there. Because the question is not if they can but if they want. It would be a complete waste to leave RO2 as it is now.

I remember back in the day. A lot of stuff here I said, and was banned, and called an elitist prick.

Its good to see RO making a comeback. All the more better that it's RO2.

Finally. Let's get it on.

Well I got banned and deleted from all forms of TWI testing, for my comments regarding HOS, together with the removal of my ability to accept people their first post in the support sections, so you still better behave ;).
