How many MP campaigns will HOS have? All ten maps in one long campaign, or perhaps two shorter campaigns that have five maps each?

It would be nice to have more than one campaign, each campaign taking place in a different sector of Stalingrad. And perhaps allow server admins to string those campaigns together into one full, long Stalingrad campaign. (Although... two teams fighting for control over all RO maps might last a very, very long time :D)

Anyway, if you have ideas for the multiplayer campaign, post 'em here.

i mentioned it to Alan on sunday, to which he replied they haven't thought about the idea yet......

i would like to see the ability to mix the different gametypes into the Campaign. say one map played in countdown, then maybe the next in territory. :)

Melbourne, Australia.
Maybe break the campaigns up into the months of which the battles were fought. So maybe there can be the pre-Stalingrad kind of campaign where the levels and fighting take place over more rural terrain like farms and large fields.
And as time progresses the campaigns and battles become more focused around CQC fighting in the streets and buildings of Stalingrad itself.
Maybe someone can refine my idea.

I just want to play big rural maps <3

A couple of ideas for the MP campaign:

  1. Allow server admins to add more territories to the campaign map. Let's assume that RO2 will have 10 custom Stalingrad maps, each in a different sector in Stalingrad. Server admins can then add custom territorial sectors using a script, linking those custom maps to those sectors and upload that info to the server. BAM, now the campaign consists of 20 maps instead of 10.
  2. Server-side option to pause and save campaign progress, so the campaign can be spread out over daily or weekly battles instead of having to complete it in one sitting.
  3. More variables in combat power, such as artillery, mortars etc. See this idea.
  4. It would be really nice if the campaign map looked like a 3D miniature city. :)
I know I often come up with ideas that would require a lot of work, but ideas need to be shared, right? :) Ideas 1, 2 and 3 would allow the community to make custom Stalingrad campaigns, which would be perfect for tournaments like Iron Crescendo.

Maybe one could have it like WW2 online where you fight for whole Stalingrad like the singleplayer campaign mode. Now the fight is on all day and night and players can join battles at any time just like a standard territory match. This of course might take a month of fighting but hey you don't rush through the SP campaign of a game like in just 30mins. Having a kind of World Domination gaming gives the players something to keep playing the game.

I hope I could made myself a bit clear. :D

Well MP Campaign is pretty new and original idea for FPS shooters. I think for start we get only one Stalingrad campaign. It also takes some time to check balance, bugs and other stuff.
Later, when more maps comes (from developers and modders) we get next campaign. Having that as free updates from TWI makes game very attractive to players and when time comes I don't mind to buy RO2: Heroes Of <planeyourbattlename> with new units, vehicles and campaigns from new timeframe and place.

I think it should go Alien Swarm style.

Have the server start on a single campaign. Once they have completed that campaign everyone celebrates some of the losing team rages etc etc, then instead of voting for a new map, you vote on which campaign you want to do next. Modders and Devs could make 4-8 extra maps, and call it a campaign. It would be votable though the menu and all that.

Example: If you just won the Stalingrad campaign, you'd be able to vote for another campaign like a remake of RO:OOST maps tied into a campaign or something.

What if the German keep winning instead of the Russian? Would it be an alternate history scenario?

I would imagine so. Maybe the Soviets will get a Combat Power boost at the last territory or two.

HOMM3 was my favourite turn based strategy. MP campaign should be based on it.

- The player in charge starts on a strategic battlefield at his base.
- A knight on a horse denotes your entire army as it travels on the strategic battlefield.
- You get X number of movement points per turn.
- Reinforcements arrive to the base every 5 turns for example and your knight needs to return to the base to collect the reinforcements.
- The strategic map has different resources on it (can be represented by towns and village settlements). These resources provide food, fuel, communication for your army and the more you control the stronger you become.
- Larger army can be more easily detected on the strategic map by means of reconaissance teams and airplanes.

little epilogue text at the end saying: despite recent successes in stalingrad, the germans were defeated.

germans can never win.
