I own both BF2 and BC2 and I hated the weapon unlock systems they had mainly because they took forever to accomplish. BF:BC2 isn't as bad as BF2 when it comes to how long it takes, but I certainly wouldn't relate BC2 to RO2.

For starters, in BC2, most of the classes don't have their main weapons or equipment available from the start. Medics don't get medkits or paddles, Assault doesn't get ammo packs, Engineers don't get the repair tool or AT mines, or decent rocket launchers and the recon doesn't get mortars, or motion sensors, etc.

And to add on top of all the above, BC2 gives higher leveled players body armour, armour protection for vehicles, magnum rounds, etc. which makes it even harder for new players to take them out, while they can use body armour to take more hits and use magnum rounds to take you out with less.

In RO2, you don't get extra body armour or special ammo, you get additional weapons or different ammo mags, but no weapon suddenly becomes more superior over another.... one round in the chest or head with any weapon and you die..... so trying to grind to unlock these features isn't as important as it is in other games such as BC2 where if you don't grind, you're stuck at a disadvantage.

I'm looking forward to it in RO2.

Okay, so unlocks in RO2 dosen't give you the same kind of advantage as in BC2. A level 50 player still dies from one shot to the chest and so on.

But we still have weapon unlocks. Weapons that perform alot better then the weapons we start off with. Mp44 for an example, rifle and sub-machine gun combined. If it is anything like it's real life counter part that gun will dominate in all situations. Another one is the semi-automatic sniper rifle.

Then we have all the extra unlocks. Bigger clips, scopes, silencers (?). So for me, it still looks like higher level players will have a big advantage, even if they die by one or two shots like the rest of us grunts :)

Say if you have the mp44 unlocked, why ever bother using the mp40 again? In RO1 this worked out perfectly thanks to the class restrictions. Rare weapons was rare. Okay, I guess it all depends on what classes gets access to the mp44, but if it's available for say; the squad leader and the assault. Then I have a hard time seeing why anyone under level 50 (guessing here) will ever be using the mp40 again.

So my worries here are that exotic weapons will be plentyfull thanks to the unlocks and that new players will have a hard time staying alive thanks to this.

This might force new players into the grinding state.

Question: Does rank progression work on any servers other than the Official TWI servers ? (Providing their on the ranked list in the browser ofcourse)

Also, as I've understood it the only way to rank up with a particular weapon to get the upgrades for it is to acquire kills, whilst capturing objectives just ranks up your class, as in increased reload speed etc etc...

Okay, so unlocks in RO2 dosen't give you the same kind of advantage as in BC2. A level 50 player still dies from one shot to the chest and so on.

Not from my experience in BC2.... especially when they have the body armour on and mag rounds.... I'd hit them a pile of times and suddenly one or two hits from them and I'm down and off they go to continue rambo'ing through the map.

And when I hit them with an M95 in the chest and they keep on walking along..... hmmmm.

But we still have weapon unlocks. Weapons that perform alot better then the weapons we start off with. Mp44 for an example, rifle and sub-machine gun combined. For the fun of it?

I've had many people take me out with just one shot from the MP40 from a long distance away.... I'd probably just switch from one or the other mainly based on how badass I want to look ;)

In RO1 this worked out perfectly thanks to the class restrictions. Rare weapons was rare. Okay, I guess it all depends on what classes gets access to the mp44, but if it's available for say; the squad leader and the assault. So I don't get it..... you complain about things like the bayo and drum mags not being available right from the get-go and hating how one has to unlock all these things..... then complain about how many of these things, like the MP44 and semi-auto sniper rifles will be all over the place and nobody would use anything else except those weapons.

So which is it?

One would think having everything unlocked right from the start would be the worst case scenario for you, cuz you'd have every single person trying to use all these weapons.

Having the unlocks in the game helps reduce this and also reduce the chances of too many of these weapons being on the battlefield.

Not everybody on your team will be super high rankers, also, not every high ranking player will take the "best" classes..... and to add on top of all of that, not every high ranking player will actually choose those unlocks...... so it will still be very much as you would like it.... only a select few people on each team will actually have those weapons, while others of lower ranks who take assault classes or commander classes would still be using MP40's, etc.

It's not grinding when shooting someone through the chest with a bolt action rifle is oh so satisfying.

I know that sounds quite morbid but the kill satisfaction in this game is really high, the blood splattering the walls, the way the soldier falls and squirms, :p.

Sometimes it's too realistic and I'm like, "ouch bet that hurt" and briefly I feel compation, until I see the next Nazi come running through the door!

DIE YOU NAZI SCUM!!!!!!

As you cna tell I always play Alliess :p

Seems like you missed my point then.

Like I said RO1 had perfect balance, because of the harsher class/weapon restrictions.

The MP44 was a rare thing on the battlefield, same with the semi-automatic weapons. It balanced itself out.

So yes, I would prefer that old school approach instead of unlocks. Now with unlocks the people with high enough level will be able to use the mp44 with the classes that allows it. With less loose class restrictions I wouldn't be suprised if we see around 20 germans running around with the mp44 on a normal 64 player server.

This spells hell for the newcomers. So you are bascily forced to level up as quick as you can to have a chance against this rifle. Especially if the high level players have unlocked scopes and bayonet for it aswell.

Sure, those high level players don't have the advantages of surviving more bullets, but the advantage a fully decked out mp44 gives...

Then we have the % thing. You increase the speed you reload, suppression don't have the same effect and so on.

So, my concern is that RO2 will be the same as BC2. High level players will dominate because of the unlocks and progression. Never was as an issue with RO1. All skilled based, and I guess some luck if you got a good enough weapon on the server ;)

I'm still not sure whether it's clear anyone within a certain class can use the MKb or AVT.

They are separate unlocks after all.

Hurts my eyes everytime someone refers to the Mkb42 as the MP44, and esp. when they keep doing it...

Is Mkb42 really that much harder to spell/remember ?

Just stop caring about stats and/or unlocks.

I'm sure the game would be much more enjoyable.
