about the original topic: please NO swatikas, this game does not need this kind of negative propaganda.
I remember TWI already said there will be no swastikas ingame, so the discussion about that can end here.

about using another symbol for the german side: YES, this would be good! maybe the classic balkenkreuz.

That's actually what's I've been asking for a long time. The Balkenkreuz needs to be used because its the official symbol of the Wermacht.

The only place I actually want the Swastika in are places like Uniforms and Medals..

Pretty amazing how some people can't seem to grasp why the swastika can't, and shouldn't be put in the game. It's not just an issue of use in Germany, it's an issue worldwide. smh.

THE SWASTIKA IS ALREADY IN GAME! And I hope TWI keeps it where it is.

It's not. It's just a stylized form of the Iron Cross used on vehicles and airplanes.

Actually yes it is ingame. The German Commander has a total of 3 Swastikas on his Uniform. All others have 2.

If the General Assault Badge was actually made in RO2 realisticly there would be 1 more Swastika to Uniforms

He was saying the Balkenkreuz wasn't official.

For the Soviet symbol, you could use that red star you posted, but make the trim gold instead of white. That would correspond to the war flag the Red Army used unofficially. So we'd have two de-facto, historically sound emblems for the armies that are relatively apolitical and PC-friendly.

My intention when created this thread was not have a swastika as the German team's logo.

Anyway, it's kinda funny to see how some people are offended by what would be the most historically accurate logo for the German team. They have no problem playing as a German soldier fighting Hitler's war, but seeing a symbol would be terrible.

Some including myself do find it mildly distasteful in the sense that I prefer to play allied and think Stalingrad is a good battleground due to the lack of SS units.

But this is mostly a response to revisionism more than it is that I mind what would otherwise be a pure historical role.

You could argue that court decisions on criminal organizations and symbols is slightly inconsistent.

Perhaps regime change should have voided pension privileges for all service members and perhaps nazi memorabilia based digital and physical re-enactment considered unsuitable for those under 18, and grounds to be put on a security force watch list if 18+. Heaven knows right wing nationalism is responsible for almost all US and EU terrorist activity.

But that is not the case. Thankfully I suppose.

Edit
Norway has laws that forbid paramilitary training - apaint pellet enthusiasts had the secret service following them for a bit in the late 80s trying to figure out what they were up to.

Lets just say the Breivik episode has me a bit more conservative on what I think state security should follow up on. The use of nazi symbolism and organized digital re-enactment would be one marker that should trigger something under our current legal code.

So best that the symbolism is avoided.

That's right. Just for further information for the people who don't live in Germany
Yeah but this is from the Allied imposed government that was imposed on Germany at the end of WW2. The Reichspr

To me, it's quite comparable to WW2 monuments you have in Germany. They want to honor those who gave their lives for their country but don't want to justify the cause of the war since it was started by a criminal regime. So they take an Iron Cross instead of a swastika which certainly is a compromise.

I wouldn't be personally offended if the Germans in RO2 had a swastika as their symbol since it's historical. But there's A. the emotional differentiation mentioned above and B. legal considerations when releasing the game in some European countries.

I have swastikas all over my house, hanging from car mirrors and the like. But then, my wife is Buddhist and they have been using that symbol long before the 3rd Reich came into existence.

soviets and germans is normally what I say. I'd guess it'd make more sense to say Soviets and Nazis. People are touchy about Nazis I guess.

The term "Nazi" was used in Germany to mean those members of the party or those who strictly support them. It would be weird to take this as the name for Germans (in the 3rd Reich) as a whole.

At least "Soviet" is the part of their state's name so it's not plain wrong.

Also "Bolshevist" or "Communist" would rather fit as counterpart to Nazi when expressing political ideals.

It will remain Axis and Allies, but Soviet is definitely more accurate than Russian in this case - Russia was only a part (albeit the largest by far) of the USSR as the Russian SFSR.

Why not just have unit insignias for each map depending on what battalion/army etc was involved?

16th Panzer vs. 1st Guards Tank Army

so:

116th_Panzer-Division_logo.svg
VS

(Note i am making this confrontation up) sorry its not resizing for some stupid reason

That logo is of the 116th Windhund, not the 16th PzD.

The NAZI party is an abbreviation meaning National Socialist/lism.
