I bought CoD + UO package a year after it came out and I loved it, but I did try to play it a few months ago and I was bored by the general style of gameplay.

Here's you go;

IL-2 - Wings of Prey: Saw it for 25$, thought it would be a good "IL-2 with nice graphics" game, I was wrong. It's a terrible console port with pretty graphics.

Burnout - Paradise: Not fun on PC. I wish I bought this on the console. Still, I got it for dirt cheap.

Theatre of War - Kursk 1943: The biggest POS of this year. I tried the original ToW, it was pretty average but had nice ballistics and was a promising game. In Kursk 1943, first game's flaws are still there, plus still running horribly. The missions are a joke, you're fighting on a quite small map and that makes every tactic obsolete. Get Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1942 instead.

Heh, Oldih rants about that game every second day. :p

Luckily it's only the demo impression I've been ranting, I can't imagine how the retail is :p But while we're at it:

Dark Falls : Lost Souls - I don't mind reasonable point'n click adventure game but this was like pulling your eyes out with your feet while barrelrolling.

Sniper Elite - this one is pretty obvious though.

Call of Duty : United Offensive - even though most of this could be just put under CoD2 atleast I enjoyed CoD2 single player until the whole respawn grindfest went out of control. In UO not only it was mindless respawnwaves coming out of every possible closet from the very first mission but the buggy, glitchy mission scripts and even AI was really frushtrating and really weird at the same time.

Commandos 3 - it wasn't as bad as I expected but it just felt like a downgrade regarding the overall difficulty and some other things.

Can someone tell me why did UT3 failed so much

Ok, i'll give it a go, and then hopefully we shall never have to speak of it ever again.. *shudders*.
Some of thease reasons will be my own, and some of them common complaints from the UT community, and most of them will pertain to the release version, and focused on what the PC community felt.
Ok, now hold your nose, for we are diving straight into the stink here!

The "Beta" Demo:

Things where bad right from the start there, the "Beta" Demo was released shortly before the full game went gold, and to be blunt, it failed to impress.. people hated the server browser, the graphics where no where near as good as the promotional material they had been teasing us with for years prior (moreso as it did not support AA), and it felt buggy and unpolished.

The Demo itself turned off a lot of players, but others like myself argued "it's just a Beta, surely all thease things will be fixed and much improved in the full game!", but i was wrong, the full game was released shortly after, and it was indeed just the Beta Demo with the rest of the game content attached, Epic dissapointment right from the start there.

The release:

UT3 was hastilly forced on the market by Midway, the Publisher, who was in serious money trouble and went belly-up a short while later, it was released too soon, with allmost zero marketing behind it, and at the same time as huge blockbusters like The Orange Box, Crysis and CoD4:MW. The timing could not have been worse if they had tried, and the game was a buggy half-finished mess of a game, and stood no chance of competing with TF2 and CoD4:MW.

What was broken?

I'm glad you asked, let's see.. The server browser was horrid, previous UT's had excellent server browsers, and this one was an insult in comparison, it just barely functioned, you could not add favorites, the filters where broken, it showed wrong pings, and all the nice features of old ones where gone.

Hosting servers was a giant mess, there was no Linux client at launch, and the admin tools where so lacking and bad that admins where really struggeling, and running custom content was entirely broken (and still is in many ways), it was just a bad joke all around.

The game engine was not finished, at release, mappers coulden't even crate opening doors (and that was the least of it), the support for such things just haden't been added to the engine yet.

Mod support was entirely broken, at launch you coulden't even create TC mods, and even basic mutators where only barely functional, add to this a confusing cooking process and bad file structure, and it was just not a modders game like the old ones where.
Several mod types, like voice packs and player skins, where also made impossible by the way charecter selection was set up in the menu's now.

Failure to run on common PC hardware, like ATI vid-cards and many of the Creative "X-Fi" sound cards, N-Force 4 Chipsets and lots more.

Bugs, plenty of bugs, far to many to list here.

Broken promises:

The pre-release media we saw of the game where a lie at best, the real thing looked nothing like that, it looked quite a bit worse actually.

"This will be the best UT yet for Offline players", no, it is not, it is by far the worst of the series Offline, the AI is terrible (they hax), the SP campaign is rubbish, and they utterly gimped all the setup options for Bot-match play, it's but a shadow of what UT and UT2004 offered in this regard.

"The SP campaign will be something new, not just botmatches with Cutscenes", outright lies and falsehoods, for that is exactly what it is.

"Windows, Linux and MAC", yes to the first one, the second one we had to wait quite a bit for, the third one has yet to happen and probably never will at this pace.

Conquest game mode.. never happened, instead they added some bits to Onslaught and pretended it was a new gamemode called "Warfare", but it's just Onslaught with the new "Orb" and Hoverboards really.

Other stuff that sucked:

The UI, magnificent, awe inspiring, excellent, thease are all words that have nothing to do with the "ported straight from the Console version" mess that was UT3's UI, it was bad, clunky and slow, just barely worked, and was utterly devoid of the countless options that UT's of the past gave us so generously, and allmost anything had to be changed by digging around in the games INI files (and there where like 8 of them now, instead of just 2 like in the previous games).

Gamespy integration.. seriously, Gamespy? the very service the community begged of you to never, ever use ever again because it's garbage? yup, it's there, and now you can't even play the game, not even offline, if GS has another one of it's frequent outages.

Where did all the options go? previous UT's gave us lots of customization options, UT3 gave us.. allmost nothing, you coulden't even choose between different Crosshairs, let alone bind speech to keys, or even select your preferred team, there was just nothing but the bare bones in there, just the basics required to play the game, no creature comforts, nothing of signifigance to tweak or change.

The theme, what the hell where they thinking? previous games had a simple premise of "it's a brutal tournament held in space, go nuts! anything can happen!", which allowed the games to play around with countless themes and colourfull locations, and all kinds of races, but not this one, ohh no, to appeal to the Gears Of War players, they decided to mess that up, and introduce the most contrived and poorly concieved story line i have ever seen.
This was no Tourney, ohh no, this was a WAR! yeah, we're supposed to take this stuff serious now are we? And ofcourse, it all takes place on just one planet, so there's a serious lack of diversity in texture sets, maps, player models, everything really.. now it's all grey, brown, red and black, ohh joy.

Lack of content.. where's all the game types we used to know? including hugely popular ones like Invasion? where's all the large DM and CTF maps? where are all the funny mutators? why can't i configure my listen-server or Botmatch game propperly? why coulden't we spectate matches? where did the demo-record feature go? why can't i configure mutators from within the UI? where's all the regular people, why can i only be a steroid popping douchebag? why is there no way to play without "Brightskins" enabled? where's all the options? etc etc etc, so little on offer here compared to previous games.

Connection issues and lag, it's not good.

And why does my player feel like he ways 2

Nicely summed up there Grobut, I still reckon the original UT is the best.

Theater of War
Hyped as a spiritual successor to Combat Mission, it utterly fails. Really **** missions where the enemy always out numbers you to cover up the ****tyness of the AI. Tank combat on the same level of realism as Red Alert. Infantry is horribly broken, won't stay put or hold formation etc. All this is magnified by the crappy controls.

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men
Given to me as a present, that guy who got fired from GameSpot didn't can it enough, ugh.

It's not even complete, there's tons of issues and bugs i have omitted to keep the post size down, and which i have just plain repressed the memory of..

Also, at the time they where making us wait for patches as they made the Xbox version, was when Epic felt like antagonising the PC community, where CliffyB and Mark Rein where making coments about "The PC is dead", "All PC players are pirates" and so on and so forth, that really did not help matters..

And yes, the Origional UT am best, and Unreal was made of win too! It's just too bad that Epic Games are not the same company they where back then :(

here to kill your monster
^ yeah well cliffB is a prat - the romero of epic - all wind and piss.

tbh though as i said, I know there's a list of woes to UT3, but i still believe gamer's tastes have generally moved away from this kind of title.
That said i accept if it was made to feel more like something special for the PC market - it would have earned more respect and consequently more players.

I didn't mind UO - I thought the campaigns were exciting enough and i accepted the tanks to be what they were, i was playing games like panzer commander steel beasts at the time anyway - I accepted multiplayer as fun and offering great value, with all the different gametypes.
If i wanted a different pace i had vietcong and R6:3 in any case, COd UO succeeded in mading me feel like i was a character in the WW2 comic books i read as a child.

COD2 put me off the idea of paying full-whack for a game on release, i tend to monitor the situ and buy when i feel it represents good value.

I've just remembered my worst purchase tbh, i seem to remember paying

Holy :IS2:! Grobut!

That was an overdose of bad memories, I didn't remember most of that stuff, actually, most of it I didn't even know.

I am certainly NEVER getting that thing on steam. I got the PS3 version as a gift, I'm not wasting my money on the PC version!

I'm not exactly a 50-Cent fan as it is, but the game is pretty pathetic self-advertising. Just like Hulk Hogan is not meant for movies, 50 Cent is just not made for games.

I was asking you to get on Steam and talk to meh ;.;

EDIT: oh and thanks guys for informing me about the UT3 :3

I agree that while UT3 was pretty lame, it was not that buggy.

It look and ran great at near high settings on my 7600GS AGP. AMD 2500, and 1.5GB of RAM.

No crashing or serious bugs for me.

Now, perhaps if you were trying to host and mod the issues might have been more noticeable. Which is indeed what killed the game.

I agree with the demo though. The small were really shocking to me.

Even today, I can find a server in UT2004 just as easily as I can in UT3.

I hope they will make another UT though.

Front Mission: Evolved

Singleplayer sucks, and it's just hard to find anyone for multiplayer (not that you have to find anyone yourself, it's matchmaking. blech) This is the only game I paid full price for within the last 3 years or so, and it reminded me why I usually wait for sales.

Lucky you, but i had an X-FI Elite Pro sound card, and 4 GB's of RAM on an XP box.. Crash city! i had to disable the sound card and use the onboard instead, and physically remove 2 sticks of RAM to play the game at all.

Spore - I knew it was going to be bad when I played the prototype games they released as teasers. I had no idea it would be that bad. I look at my copy and just sigh.

WH40K: Dawn of War II - I've tried to like this game so many times....and I just can't. I should have just skipped this 40k installment.

Alien Vs Predator(2010):

Played the multiplayer demo and I loved it, the gameplay was addictive and had new things to offer compared to other games, the races felt good and all, so I got the game...

...the single player was a big piece of garbage, you play the same maps with all 3 races, it was extremely short, the plot and the voices were just pathetic.

The multiplayer? fun for a few hours, but when you realize that all there is to it, are the same few tiny maps and lack of SDK preventing a community to make more maps, there is nothing else but regret.

The list of maps would be slightly expanded with a paid DLC, that I obviously didn't buy.
I've been making my way through the SP, and while I don't disagree about anything you've said...I've found it to be really atmospheric. Moreso than the other games. The MP is a mess of BS combos and cheap attacks, and the SP does have all the problems you mentioned (the story is a ****ing train wreck)....but you FEEL like an Alien, and you FEEL like a Predator. If you can get it cheap, I think the experience is worth it. Assuming you have a stout rig and it doesn't run like absolute ****.

I find that the UT3 Single-player is super repetitive with no real story whatsoever. However, I do like how it looks graphically. But, I mostly bought it for UE3 and mods :D
