It would be nice if a friendly soldier was shot that his dot would remain on the radar for a while. Just not moving.

This allows people to sneak behind someone and stab, some time to get away. Without everybody being alerted that a dot dissapeared next to you so you know there is an enemy around there.

Friendly character dots on 'radar' = lame.

'Radar' itself = lame.

Combined they provide sophomoric, unthinking casual gameplay meant for the kids and part time players. Five minutes to boredom, no thanks.

...but if it has to exist (even if under the guise of 'selling more gamez') then 'yes' to your suggestion. Adding gamey crutches to allow a modelled human being act in an unhuman way is sooo yesterdays shooter.

Instead of staying there and looking like lag or a bug or something, maybe it could turn gray on death before it disappears?

I have no idea how the radar works, but if the colors are done right you may not notice it being gone right away if the dot is just grayed out. That way you get the same effect without making the radar look strange and unreliable.

thing is if it greys out then it might be even easier to notice that a teammate just got killed there. As then you wouldnt even need to know there was a dot in that room a milisecond ago.

The Heroes of Stalingrad videos showed a little minimap on the right bottom corner of the game that showed in say a 10 to 20 meter sphere where friendly soldiers were.

Edit: The guy i responded to removed his post evil bugger :p

Radar - a device for determining the presence and location of an object by measuring the time for the echo of a radio wave to return from it and the direction from which it returns.

Yeah Xendance, the radar thingy is what Tripwire is calling 'situational awareness' or something to that effect.. from what I understand they are saying this is information the soldier would know... but I disagree. You may be able to 'feel' your teammates around you, but is a radar showing them really necessary? If they move, do you have eyes in the back of your head to see where they moved to?

Again, it's another gamey crutch for people who have trouble with a challenge. It's much more challenging and realistic to have to listen and look around in order to know who is around you or where they have moved to; to use the voice comms in order to communicate position. In the end it's much more rewarding to rely on your combined skills as a team than it is to be given radars and zooming, etc. In fact, if I were designing this game, I would add only local chat to the game, not full team chat.

Besides, if it only shows teammates... what the hell is the point of it anyway? What good does it do you?

I'm still on the fence in regards to the existence of these two modes, but whatever, I guess we'll see how it plays out when the game is released.

Yea but I don't have as narrow FOV in real life as in RO, 180 vs 85/90 degrees? I agree that the radar shouldn't show teammates directly behind you, but it should compensate the lack of peripheral vision.

Peterpan you dont want the radar at all which is understandable but this discussion is about how to make it optimal as its going to be there wether we like it or not ....

From the gametrailers video i believe they said the radar was based on hearing too, aka you see a dot as well in the room next to you that you cannot see at all.

well imho having a rador or not having a radar are both bad solutions
the radar gives way too much information, and having no radar doesnt portray your full capacity of "feeling" where someone is

i dont know how to make it better and i dont have a new idea but i know that i dont fully like either option

maybe just arrows around your compass showing you all friendly units in a radius of <25m

I hope Tripwire re-think lame-radar thing and remove it. I'm missing oldschool compass. Why in RO normal player needed compass and map only?. Now he must have GPS, radar, advanced HUD and other stuff? Ah I forgot, console players aren't normal fps players. They need extra hand...

hehe maybe they can build in support for a 3 screen monitor set up so we can now have peripheral vision instead of a radar?
I will most definitely get flamed for mentioning Counter-Strike, but I think (I haven't played for years) CS:S had a radar set up that only showed players once they were spotted or fired weapons near by, and then they slowly disappeared as they moved away from you, maybe it will be something similar to this?

anyways, flame on!

Personal radar in RO/DH is an abomination! 100% crap idea.
Never ever ever EVER put that rubbish in this excellent game!

A major part of the "good" in this game is not knowing where anyone is till you're engaged. It's that randomness that sets this game apart!

If you want radar - go play another game. That's not what we do here!

Im not suggesting to get a radar its already there watch the bottom right of the screen.

The idea of the rader seems mostly to be able to see your teammates and know where they are so you can easier get teamwork going.
